Job description

We're seeking someone to join our Corporate Controllers, Reporting & Accounting team as a Regulatory and Legal Entity Reporting Controller to lead the delivery of accurate and timely regulatory reporting for Canadian member firm entities, while enhancing reporting controls, supporting regulatory change initiatives, and driving process improvements across the regulatory reporting framework.

In the Finance division, we act as a partner to business units around the globe by providing management, review, analysis and advisory services of the Firm's financial and capital resources. This is a Director level position within our Corporate Controllers, Reporting & Accounting Job Family which is responsible for the accuracy and control of the Firm's books and records to produce the consolidated firm, segment and legal entities financial statements, including development, management and oversight of financial accounting & reporting systems as well as database management, including capital and liquidity reporting and external reporting functions.

What you'll do in the role:

  • Collaborate with a varied group of colleagues in Finance and across the Firm.

  • Responsible for and lead a significant set of deliverables, leveraging advanced understanding of Finance functional area, product and/or client segment.

  • Proactively identify emerging risks in individual and department work and contribute to strategies for mitigating them.

  • Act as a role model and culture carrier; Embody and set an example of the Firm's values and hold yourself and others accountable to Firm standards.

  • Support end-to-end regulatory reporting for Canadian member firm entities, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely filings with Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO).

  • Assist with the implementation of new or evolving regulatory, accounting, and business requirements affecting regulatory reporting, including system enhancements, process redesign, regulatory mapping updates, and cross-functional change initiatives.

  • Support local regulatory and statutory audits, including evidence preparation, issue resolution and stakeholder coordination.

  • Work closely with Finance, Operations, Compliance, Technology, and business stakeholders to resolve accounting, reporting, and control issues and to support execution of strategic initiatives.

  • Strengthen the regulatory reporting control environment through enhanced governance, process standardization, documentation, reconciliation, and data quality oversight.

  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, reporting optimization, and use of data, analytics, and technology-enabled solutions to improve reporting accuracy, transparency, and efficiency.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Advanced understanding of Finance functional area, product and/or client segment and technical skills, as well as of industry and competitive environment.

  • Ability to provide positive and constructive feedback and acknowledge efforts of team members.

  • Ability to articulate risk and impact to various audiences, and create plans to mitigate those risks.

  • CPA Canada or equivalent designation.

  • Knowledge of IFRS accounting rules.

  • Exposure to regulatory capital related filings for Canadian broker dealers, banks or other financial institutions including capital calculation, supporting schedules and regulatory disclosures.

  • Strong understanding of control frameworks governing the accuracy and completeness of regulatory reporting data, including reconciliations, evidence standards, issue management, and auditability.

  • Experience in dealing with external auditors.

  • Understanding of broker-dealer products, operational flows, and legal entity structures, and how they affect regulatory capital and financial reporting.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools and platforms, with the ability to effectively utilize these technologies in a business environment. Experience developing or implementing automation, analytics, or AI-driven solutions to improve processes and business performance is considered an asset.

  • At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.

All our positions are located in Toronto, Ontario. We offer a hybrid work environment, combining remote work and attendance in the office.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 120K and 150K per year at the commencement of employment.However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
