Job description

Position Description: TRC is seeking an engineering technician for Fabrication to construct products by cutting, bending, and assembling various materials as the job requires. This candidate must have the ability to interpret and create designs based on what the job requires. Engineering technicians provide semi-professional technical support for engineers supporting in such areas as research programs, equipment design, test development, and testing. This position focuses on fabrication. The engineering tech needs to be able to use fabrication equipment as band saws, drill presses, and shears alongside various hand tools. Experience in operation of a Mill and Lathes are also important for this position. In this role, the engineering technician should have a good understanding of how to comprehend and read blueprints and drawings, electronically and physically. Engineering technician should possess a strong and practical understanding of motor vehicles, systems, and equipment. Candidate must also possess a strong discipline in fabrication and machining equipment safety.Essential Functions*
• Must be able to operate various tools and equipment.
• Read and interpret drawings, Both electronic and paper
• Assemble, repair, and troubleshoot equipment and support systems
• Provide technical support to project teams
• Hands on mechanical and welding experience (MIG, TIG, Stick)

Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions)
Experience with vehicle safety systems
• Assemble or install equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting
• Develop creative solutions to technical problems
• Follow safety procedures; wear protective equipment including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes
• Assists in design modifications process with engineer
• Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts
Qualifications
• High school diploma is required
• Associate’s degree in a mechanical engineering technology and/or electronic discipline is preferred
• Recognized certification(s) and minimum five years related experience with demonstrated expertise in applied disciplines is preferred
• Practical knowledge and experience of vehicle testing applications
• Practical knowledge of science or engineering
• Proficient in the use of equipment and/or tools and machinery
• Valid driver’s license
• Excellent communication skills
• Basic computer skills
Working conditions
• Standard office, climate controlled environment
• May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degree and above 95 degrees
• May be exposed to inclement weather
• May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as gas, oil, and paint
Physical requirements
• Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
• Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers
• Capable of positioning one’s self into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions
