Litigation Attorney

Litigation Attorney (Construction & Insurance)
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Litigation Attorney to join our litigation team with a focus on construction-related disputes and insurance matters. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload, advocate for clients in court and alternative dispute resolution, and contribute to strategic case development on issues such as construction claims, mechanic's liens, bond claims, and contract disputes.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a full litigation caseload from intake through resolution, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial preparation.
  • Represent clients in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, settlement agreements, and related legal documents.
  • Prepare and take depositions, attend hearings, and conduct trials when necessary.
  • Handle construction-specific claims including mechanic's liens, bond claims, payment disputes, and general construction claims.
  • Advise clients on insurance coverage disputes, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation issues.
  • Develop case strategies, coordinate with experts and consultants, and supervise outside counsel as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates, risk assessments, and settlement recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and mentor junior attorneys and paralegals; manage billing and case budgets.
  • Conduct legal research and stay current on changes in construction law, insurance law, and litigation best practices.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar admission in OH
  • 3+ years of litigation experience; construction litigation and civil litigation experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanic's liens, bond claims, and general construction claims preferred
  • Proven trial or arbitration experience and comfort handling hearings and depositions.
  • Strong contract negotiation skills and familiarity with construction contracts and related documents.
  • Experience with mediation and alternative dispute resolution techniques.
  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, prioritize deadlines, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with e-filing systems, case management software, and discovery platforms.
  • Strong client service skills, professional demeanor, and commitment to ethical practice.
