Hospice Educator (RN)

Mt. Carmel Hospice Columbus, OH

Mt. Carmel Hospice is seeking an experienced and passionate Hospice Educator (RN) to lead clinical education, orientation, competency development, and ongoing professional training for our hospice team. This role is critical in ensuring clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and the successful integration and development of new and existing colleagues.

The Hospice Educator serves as an educational leader, mentor, and clinical resource while partnering with leaders to support onboarding, competency validation, technology adoption, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Develop and implement individualized orientation plans for new clinicians.

  • Collaborate with managers, preceptors, schedulers, IT teams, and new hires to facilitate successful onboarding.

  • Provide oversight of field orientation and evaluate progress toward competency goals.

  • Review clinical documentation and provide coaching and real-time feedback.

  • Develop action plans and re-education strategies when learning gaps are identified.

  • Serve as a mentor and coach to support clinician success and engagement.

Clinical Education & Competency Development

  • Assess educational needs and design effective learning programs for hospice staff.

  • Coordinate ongoing education and competency validation activities.

  • Collaborate with leadership and quality teams to identify learning opportunities and performance improvement initiatives.

  • Support survey readiness and compliance with federal, state, local, and accreditation requirements.

  • Maintain education records and documentation.

  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs for professional and non-professional staff.

  • Facilitate monthly and ongoing education sessions.

  • Utilize adult learning principles and a variety of teaching methodologies.

Informatics & Clinical Documentation Support

  • Serve as an education and informatics resource for clinicians.

  • Support staff proficiency with technology platforms, including:

  • Homecare Homebase (HCHB)

  • Learning Management Systems (LMS)

  • Microsoft Office applications

  • Agency technology tools

  • Provide coaching and education regarding hospice documentation and regulatory standards.

  • Partner with leadership to address documentation improvement opportunities.

Student & Clinical Affiliation Coordination

  • Serve as the primary liaison with schools, colleges, and universities.

  • Coordinate student placements and clinical learning experiences.

  • Support faculty, student, and resident onboarding.

  • Ensure compliance with all affiliation requirements and confidentiality standards.

  • Assist in developing policies and procedures related to student clinical experiences.

Program Development & Leadership

  • Participate in committees, special projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, competencies, and continuing education programs.

  • Collaborate with vendors and community partners as needed.

  • Support patient-centered care initiatives and organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Education Program.

  • Current RN licensure in the State of Ohio.

  • Strong knowledge of hospice regulations, compliance, and clinical practice standards.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to create educational materials, presentations, curricula, and instructional resources.

  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to travel throughout the service area as needed.

  • Commitment to Mt. Carmel's mission, values, Code of Ethics, and Compliance Program.

Preferred

  • Graduate of an approved Nursing education program, bachelor's in nursing is preferred.

  • Ten (10) years of nursing experience, including hospice experience.

  • Experience in end-of-life care, home health, oncology, palliative care, or hospice.

  • CPR Instructor Certification.

Certification Requirements

  • Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care (CHPN or equivalent) required within one year of employment.

  • Mental and Physical Requirements - Frequently lift, stands, and walks (80% of time) - Occasionally bend, stoop, and twist (10% of time). - Occasionally position and lift patients (10% of time). - Must be able to travel to various TH/THHS worksites or various work locations as required
