Job description

FSLA: Non-Exempt
Status: Part-Time, 15-30 hours/week
Pay: $15/hour
AM Shifts are between the times of: 6:30am-8am or 9:30am Monday-Friday
PM Shifts are between the times of 2:00pm or 3:30pm-6pm Monday-Friday

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Associate Executive Childcare Director, the Group Leader is responsible for the social, physical, spiritual, and mental development of each child within their care. In accordance with ODJFS and Step Up to Quality standards, he or she is also responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all activities, as well as keeping the safety and well-being of children as a first priority.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Manages, directs, and coordinates high-quality, school-age programs for assigned location(s) and implements new program activities.
  2. Maintains compliance with federal, state, local, and Step Up to Quality regulations as they relate to program areas.
  3. Ensures YMCA standards are met, safety procedures are followed and ensures the safety and well-being of children as a first priority.
  4. Maintains child-to-staff ratio during operating hours.
  5. Interacts with children on their individual levels of development.
  6. Assists and implements weekly lesson plans that are effective and fit childrens needs, interests, and developmental level.
  7. Assists with posting meals and snacks that meet all CACFP guidelines.
  8. Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to the assigned programs.
  9. Maintains YMCA policies and procedures regarding the site/location, state licensing, interactions and supervision of children, and communication with parents.
  10. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  11. Documents and reports to the Associate Executive Director any special needs or problems of an individual child, staff, or parent(s).
  12. Maintains the appearance of the classroom/outside areas which includes keeping supplies, materials and equipment in the rooms in a neat and orderly manner.
  13. Attends staff meetings and ongoing trainings (10 hours per year to include first aide, communicable disease, child Abuse Prevention, CPR and child development classes.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Certifications: Current First Aid, Communicable Disease, Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of a child.
  • Have a valid drivers license and capable of driving to multiple site locations.
  • Have proficient computer skills.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) while maintain alertness for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to interpret, adopt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Must be creative and enthusiastic to staff and program participants.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with families, children, and other staff.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • Ability to maintain control and composure in challenging or changing conditions.
  • Must be dependable, detailed oriented, maintain high personal morale performing job duties, meeting deadlines and prompt regular attendance.
