Job description

Established north central Ohio law office seeks an associate attorney to join a practice focused on Ohio workers' compensation, with a smaller emphasis on Social Security Disability. We are hiring for a long-term relationship, not a short-term fill, and we are prepared to discuss partnership with the right candidate. Will consider partnership depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Represent claimants and appear at Industrial Commission and BWC hearings, some in person
  • Handle workers' compensation litigation, including court appeals
  • Draft briefs and related pleadings on an occasional basis
  • Manage a caseload with direct client contact from intake through resolution
  • Excellent communication skills are a must
  • The ability and patience to deal with people from all walks of life is a must
  • Presently, this office handles about 15 to 35 hearings a week with new clients every week

Qualifications

  • Admission to the Ohio bar in good standing
  • Knowledge of Chapter 4123 of the Ohio Revised Code, or in the case of the right fit, the ability, enthusiasm and willingness to quickly learn a new area of law
  • Preferably two to three years of experience in Ohio workers' compensation law — we will consider strong candidates with less experience, or with related experience, if the fit is right
  • Experience with Social Security Disability claims is a plus
  • Sound judgment, solid writing, and comfort handling hearings independently. Willing to train for the right candidate.

Location and Schedule
Our office is in north central Ohio. We prefer candidates who live in or are willing to relocate to the surrounding area. The office centrally located and  nearby major metropolitan areas: 60 minutes from northern Columbus, 60 minutes to Akron and 70 minutes to Cleveland. The area is renowned for its recreational opportunities, beautiful rolling hills and nearby Mohican State Park.  A hybrid arrangement is possible, but our preference is daily in-person attendance at the office.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • Partnership opportunity available; in the cases of seasoned lawyers in this area of law immediate partnership opportunities are available.
  • SEP (profit sharing) plan
  • Health insurance
  • Short-term disability coverage
  • Generous vacation, increasing with continued employment

To Apply
Send a cover letter and resume, including qualifications, experience and why you wish to apply. Applicants with less than two years of practice experience should include a recent writing sample — a brief, memorandum, or any other writing sample of their own drafting, without the use of artificial intelligence. More experienced applicants need not submit one initially, but may be asked for a sample later in the process. All inquiries will be kept confidential.

Dunkle Law Office, LLC is an equal opportunity employer.

Company Description

We are a workers' compensation law firm, although we also handle Social Security Disability cases when the caseload permits. It is hoped that with this additional hire, the practice can be expanded to include more SSDI cases and a full litigation docket without the need for co-counsel. The firm is growing, and the ideal candidate should be willing to handle a growing set of responsibilities, with the possibility of additional attorney hires in the future.
