Job description

Elford Construction is growing, and we’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager who wants to be part of building meaningful projects and growing their career in commercial construction. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced Project Managers and field leaders while gaining hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of a project—from preconstruction planning through project closeout.

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports Project Managers and field leadership in the successful delivery of construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. This role helps coordinate project documentation, scheduling, subcontractor communication, and financial tracking to keep projects moving forward efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers with planning, scheduling, and budgeting activities during preconstruction and project startup

• Coordinate and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other key project documentation

• Maintain project logs including RFI logs, submittal logs, and bulletin updates

• Assist with coordination of materials, subcontractors, and labor requirements

• Support change order documentation, pricing coordination, and approvals

• Update and maintain contract drawings based on RFIs, ASIs, bulletins, and proposal requests

• Coordinate information required for installation of owner-furnished equipment

• Review subcontractor and vendor invoices and assist with project cost documentation

• Maintain project schedules and support project reporting

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams

• Assist with project closeout including as-built drawings and final documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field

• 1–3 years of experience in the construction industry (internships or co-ops considered)

• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment

• Proficiency with construction documentation and computer-based project tools

• Willingness to travel as project needs require

This role is ideal for someone looking to build hands-on experience in commercial construction while developing toward future Project Manager leadership opportunities.
