    Job description

    This hybrid position supports the technical delivery of water resources, wastewater, and environmental projects across Woolpert's Water & Energy Utilities Market. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with engineers, scientists, planners, GIS specialists, and data analysts to help clients solve complex water resources and environmental challenges.

    Projects may include environmental monitoring, stormwater planning and design, hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, surface water quality assessments, asset management, resilience planning, data analytics, and related engineering studies.

    This role offers a unique opportunity to combine field experience, technical analysis, and client-focused problem solving while contributing to meaningful water resources projects throughout Florida and the Southeast.

    Responsibilities

    • Participate in field investigations, environmental monitoring, asset assessments, and data collection activities in freshwater, marine, and municipal environments.
    • Independently perform field assignments following training and established procedures, including data collection, site documentation, equipment operation, and field troubleshooting.
    • Support the planning, design, analysis, and implementation of stormwater, wastewater, and water resources projects.
    • Conduct technical analyses and prepare engineering calculations, reports, maps, exhibits, and project deliverables.
    • Assist with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, system evaluations, and infrastructure assessments.
    • Utilize engineering, GIS, and data management tools to support project objectives and client needs.
    • Perform assigned project tasks in accordance with established scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
    • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, environmental scientists, GIS professionals, and project managers.
    • Support adherence to Woolpert's quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards.
    • Proactively communicate project risks, technical challenges, and schedule impacts to project leadership.
    • Assist with client interactions, meetings, presentations, and project coordination efforts.
    • Provide mentorship and technical support to junior staff as experience grows.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to analyze technical information and develop sound recommendations using engineering or scientific judgment and data-driven decision making.
    • Ability and willingness to perform outdoor fieldwork in varying weather conditions, including wet-weather events when required.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Ability to travel locally throughout Central Florida and surrounding project areas for meetings, site visits, and field assignments.
    • Ability to work remotely while maintaining regular availability for fieldwork, project meetings, client engagements, and occasional visits to Woolpert offices as business needs require.
    • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets company requirements.

    Physical & Work Environment Requirements

    • Ability to perform fieldwork in a variety of outdoor environments and weather conditions.
    • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, navigate wetlands and stream corridors, and access remote project sites.
    • Ability to safely lift and carry field equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
    • Ability to enter, launch, and safely operate a kayak or similar small watercraft as part of environmental monitoring and data collection activities.
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform field activities for extended periods.
    • Interest in hands-on fieldwork and a willingness to work outdoors as a regular component of the position.

    Preferred

    • Experience with discharge measurements, data processing, and rating curve development.
    • Experience with environmental monitoring and environmental data analysis.
    • Experience using flow measurement instrumentation, including SonTek FlowTracker2 Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) and/or RS5 Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP).
    • Experience with continuous flow monitoring equipment including SonTek IQ, SonTek SL, and/or Nortek AquaPro.
    • Experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro.
    • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling software.
    • Experience with stormwater management, utility infrastructure, watershed studies, or environmental permitting.
    • Experience reviewing stormwater plans and drainage reports.
    • Prior internship, co-op, consulting, municipal, or field experience related to water resources or environmental engineering.
    • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
