Job description

Position Summary...We're looking for a Manager, Earnings Controls to help build and strengthen the control environment supporting Walmart's Spark Driver program. Reporting to the Director of Earnings Controls, this role will support the identification, prioritization, and mitigation of operational and financial risks across contractor earnings, tax operations, and supporting technology systems. You'll collaborate with cross -functional partners across Finance, Controllership, Legal, Tax, Engineering, Product, Compliance, and business operations to help design and implement controls. You'll contribute to translating complex regulatory and financial requirements into operational guardrails that protect both the company and our contractor partners.
The Earnings Controls function sits within the broader Spark Driver Earnings organization and plays a critical role in strengthening the integrity, scalability, and reliability of Walmart's gig-economy operations. Our team designs and governs control frameworks that support accurate, compliant earnings disbursements and responsible business execution for Walmart's independent contractor ecosystem. We focus on business-process and operational controls across areas such as earnings calculations, tax withholding and reporting, identity verification, onboarding, payment disbursements, and contractor compliance.   • Support control design and implementation across contractor earnings processes, including pay calculations, incentive programs, deductions, tax withholding, 1099 reporting, and payment disbursements
  • Perform control assessments for the Spark Driver earnings ecosystem, helping identify control gaps and supporting remediation efforts
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to help design and validate IT dependent manual controls (ITDMs) and IT General Controls (ITGCs) over earnings systems
  • Contribute to SOX readiness by maintaining control documentation, risk-control matrices (RCMs), and process narratives
  • Help build and maintain monitoring mechanisms including key risk indicators (KRIs) and dashboards that provide visibility into control health
What you'll bring:
  • 5+ years of experience in internal controls, SOX/ICFR, internal audit, operational risk, finance transformation, or related risk/control roles—preferably in a high-growth or technology-enabled environment
  • Familiarity with gig economy, payments, or contractor operations including exposure to 1099 reporting, earnings disbursements, tax compliance, or similar multi-party payment ecosystems
  • Solid understanding of control design in evolving environments—recognizing when lightweight guardrails work, when formal SOX controls are needed, and when automation or monitoring is the better path
  • Working knowledge of core controls concepts including preventive vs. detective controls, manual vs. automated controls, IT-dependent controls, and deficiency evaluation frameworks

The annual salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $130,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
