These teams provide the financial fuel that keeps our operation running from providing detailed analyses of financial planning, performance, and forecasts to managing our investments and financial strategies. Our Finance team plays an integral role in making our airline profitable and successful by meeting our financial goals.
    Job overview and responsibilities
    The Senior Analyst - Corporate Accounting is responsible for maintaining the Company's books and records, including ensuring transactions are properly reflected in United's financial statements.This position performs many of the tasks involved in the monthly close process and preparation of consolidated financial statements and internal reporting packages (BS/IS/CFS) as well as other activities such as:
    • Reconciliation of general ledger balance sheet accounts
    • Preparation of monthly journal entries.
    • Determining the appropriate accounting treatment for various contracts / transaction
    • Other key accounting tasks

    In addition, this role is responsible for supporting innovation and continuous improvement opportunities such as, improving efficiencies, elevating the division's ability to provide insight to our business partners and gain transparency into trends in financial data. This role will specifically include involvement in various initiatives such as:
    • Assess and enhance current accounting processes through process improvements focusing on simplification and standardization
    • Improve manual processes through automation
    • Serve as a change agent and help foster an environment that embraces transformation, innovation, and continuous improvement
    • Data aggregation and analysis

    This is a Chicago-based hybrid position, requiring 2-3 days in office weekly.
    • Perform accounting operations:
      • Execute day-to-day accounting operations independently with minimal guidance, leading month-end close processes and quarterly/annual reporting to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
      • Review and analyze complex transactions, ensuring they are properly reflected in the Company's books and records in accordance with US GAAP; this includes identifying and resolving any discrepancies
      • Monitoring the performance of internal controls to ensure financial statements are free from material errors as well as providing recommendations on improving effectiveness
      • Complex ad hoc analysis as needed
    • Continuous improvement, process optimization, and automation:
      • Assess and enhance current accounting processes to identify opportunities for process improvements focusing on simplification, standardization, end-to-end optimization through cross-functional collaboration, and automation
      • Implement best practices and automation tools (e.g., EPM, Alteryx, RPA, etc.) to streamline accounting processes and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of reporting, reconciliation, and month-end close activities
      • Continuously identify and evaluate opportunities for process improvement that align with the department's transformation initiatives, focusing on cost savings and operational efficiency
    • Execution of transformation and efficiency initiatives:
      • Track efforts against transformation initiative milestones, maintain timelines, and assist in the preparation of reports for senior management on progress updates
      • Serve as a change agent and help foster an environment that embraces transformation, innovation, and continuous improvement

    Qualifications
    What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
    • Bachelor's degree in
      Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • 2+ years of related experience in accounting or finance
    • Demonstrated understanding of technical accounting rules, accounting processes and key internal controls
    • A highly motivated individual with strong leadership, analytical and organizational skills
    • Self-confidence with ability to interface with and develop consensus among multiple constituencies at varying levels
    • Ability to travel up to 10%
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables)
    • Ability to work with both technical and business user teams to identify and solve issues
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable with making presentations
    • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
    • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
    • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
