About the Role

Our client is upgrading its Records Management System (RMS). We’re seeking an experienced Data Engineer to play a critical role in analyzing, cleansing, mapping, and transforming legacy RMS data for migration into a new platform.

This role involves working with under documented legacy MySQL/MSSQL databases, reverse engineering schemas, and supporting secure, accurate data ingestion into a third party RMS solution.

Key Responsibilities

•            Analyze legacy MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases to identify tables, relationships, keys, and business logic

•            Reverse engineer undocumented schemas and reconstruct detailed data dictionaries

•            Design and document data mappings between legacy RMS and new RMS schema

•            Develop optimized, repeatable SQL queries for data extraction and transformation

•            Prepare structured and unstructured data (including PDFs and BLOBs) for ingestion

•            Support iterative test migrations and final production cutover

•            Create complete technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer to agency staff

•            Collaborate with State IT teams, RMS vendors, and subject matter experts

✅ Required Skills & Experience

•            Strong experience as a Data Engineer or similar role

•            Advanced SQL development (complex queries, joins, transformations)

•            Hands on experience with MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server

•            Proven expertise in data modeling, normalization, and schema discovery

•            Experience with ETL processes and data transformation for third party systems

•            Ability to interpret and work with incomplete or ambiguous legacy data

•            Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

•            Experience with public safety, RMS, case management, or justice systems

•            Experience processing unstructured data (BLOBs, PDFs, attachments)

•            Prior work on government or statewide IT modernization projects

Work Details

•            100% Remote (must be located within the United States)

•            Access to systems via State provided virtual desktop

•            Work performed during State business hours (7:45 AM – 4:30 PM ET)

•            Background check required
