Principal Sales Engineer Purpose

Drive profitable growth, market penetration and customer development for the Engineered Bearings business within the assigned territory and customer base. The role is responsible for managing distributors and key end users, developing technical-commercial opportunities, executing forecast and pipeline discipline, and positioning Timken’s value proposition through strong application knowledge, customer relationships, service support and business execution.

As a Principal Sales Engineer you will 

  • Develop and execute territory and account plans to achieve assigned sales, margin, forecast and market penetration objectives.

  • Manage and grow relationships with distributors, key end users, technical teams, purchasing departments and decision makers, ensuring regular business reviews, opportunity follow-up and clear action plans.

  • Identify, qualify and convert new business opportunities by market segment, product line and customer application, using value-selling tools, competitive intelligence and technical-commercial proposals.

  • Lead forecast, pipeline and monthly performance review discipline, including sales gap analysis, opportunity status, customer risks, back order follow-up, stock requirements, expected order timing and corrective actions.

  • Coordinate internally with Customer Service, Application Engineering, Service Engineering, Supply Chain, Pricing, Credit, Marketing and Product Management to support customer needs, resolve issues and accelerate business execution.

  • Provide technical-commercial support to customers and distributors, including application review, product selection, cross-reference analysis, training, failure/claim follow-up and coordination of field support when required.

  • Support pricing, margin improvement and profitability initiatives, including special pricing requests, competitive positioning, value proposals and actions to reduce dependence on limited customers or channels.

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, customer investment plans and industry dynamics to anticipate opportunities, risks and changes in demand.

  • Assist in collection of past due accounts, resolution of product claims and development/training of new Sales Engineers when required.

Minimum qualification

  • Engineer degree

  • 7+ years as Commercial Engineer

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
