    Job description

    Director, AI and Innovation Communications

Our purpose at Thomson Reuters is to Inform the Way forward. Together with the professionals and institutions we serve, we help uphold the rule of law, turn the wheels of commerce, catch bad actors, report the facts, and provide trusted, unbiased information to people all over the world. Our people, products and customers turn this purpose into action every day and create meaningful positive impact on communities around the world.

    About the Role:
Thomson Reuters is building AI systems that transform how professionals work. Your job is to make sure the world knows it.

As Director of AI and Innovation Communications, you'll drive communications strategy and execution that positions Thomson Reuters as the global technology company leading the AI race for professionals. This is a central role in how Thomson Reuters shows up with customers, media, employees, and the professional communities we serve.

The role spans the full breadth of AI and innovation communications: product launches translated for professional audiences, customer proof points with measurable outcomes, partnership announcements, executive thought leadership, competitive positioning, and content that speaks to legal professionals, tax accountants, corporate compliance teams, and government agencies. You'll work closely with product and technology leaders across the organization and coordinate tightly with marketing, sales, analyst relations, and others.

This is a fast-paced and lean team, so you need to be as comfortable building repeatable playbooks as you are crafting a narrative. The best candidate brings deep experience across multiple communications disciplines - product, customer, partnership, and executive communications - understands how professionals evaluate and adopt AI technology, and can develop a messaging framework in the morning and turn around a press release by end of day.

    Key Focus Areas:

    Product and Launch Communications

    • Develop bold communications strategies for AI model and product launches, translating technical capabilities into professional value
    • Ensure every launch lands with professional audiences - lawyers, accountants, compliance officers, government agencies - with messaging tailored to their specific workflows and pain points
    • Partner with product and engineering teams to surface stories early and build launch narratives that drive commercial impact
    • Develop new and innovative channels for storytelling

    Customer and Impact Storytelling

    • Lead communications for customer announcements and success stories that demonstrate real-world AI impact
    • Build a library of customer proof points and case studies with measurable outcomes that sales and marketing can use across channels
    • Develop new and engaging content that shows how Thomson Reuters' AI is transforming professional work in tangible, credible ways

    Partnership Communications

    • Lead end-to-end communications for strategic partnerships, from messaging development through media execution
    • Uncover new opportunities for storytelling for TR
    • Develop relationships and coordinate with partners to ensure aligned activation, messaging and maximize joint visibility

    Executive Thought Leadership

    • Support positioning for Thomson Reuters' product and technology leaders through media preparation, speaking engagements, bylined articles, and social content
    • Develop platforms that establish Thomson Reuters executives as authoritative voices on AI for professionals

    Competitive Positioning

    • Track competitive landscape and develop messaging that draws clear, substantive contrast with competitors
    • Arm spokespeople and go-to-market teams with the language and proof points to articulate Thomson Reuters' differentiation

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute AI and innovation communications strategies across product launches, partnerships, customer stories, and executive thought leadership.
    • Lead end-to-end communications for product launches, partnership announcements, and customer stories - from messaging development through media placement and internal rollout.
    • Translate AI product innovations into narratives relevant to professional audiences - focused on workflow transformation and business outcomes, not just technical features.
    • Work closely with product managers, engineers, and technology leaders to understand roadmaps, surface stories, and translate complex innovations into compelling communications.
    • Prepare executives for media interviews, speaking engagements, industry conferences, and analyst conversations.
    • Create high-quality content across formats - press releases, blog posts, case studies, briefing documents, bylines, social content, and sales-facing materials.
    • Build and maintain relationships with technology, business, and trade media covering AI, legal tech, fintech, and professional services.
    • Monitor AI industry trends, competitive developments, and regulatory discussions to provide timely counsel and ensure Thomson Reuters' communications remain relevant and forward-looking.
    • Coordinate with marketing, sales, product marketing, analyst relations, and regional teams to keep messaging aligned and opportunities surfaced.
    • Build repeatable playbooks and processes that let a lean team operate at scale and velocity.
    • Support issues management related to AI, including responsible AI messaging and reputational matters.
    • Manage at least 2 direct reports.

    About You
You're a fit for the role of Director, AI and Innovation Communications if your background includes:

    • 10+ years of experience in technology communications, in B2B technology, SaaS, or enterprise software within a large, matrixed organization.
    • Have worked across multiple communications disciplines - product, customer, partnership, and/or executive communications
    • Experience leading product and innovation PR teams
    • Have deep understanding of AI, machine learning, or emerging technologies with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for professional audiences
    • Understand how professionals and enterprises evaluate and adopt technology, and can write to that audience credibly
    • Have a track record of building media relationships with technology and business press
    • Can move between strategic messaging work and fast-turnaround tactical execution without losing quality
    • Are experienced in building processes and playbooks, not just executing one-off campaigns
    • Have strong instincts for competitive positioning and can develop messaging that holds up to scrutiny
    • Are excited about using AI tools in your own workflows to multiply what a small team can do
    • Thrive in fast-moving, matrixed environments where priorities shift and ambiguity is the norm
    • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
    • Have experience working in a publicly traded company (preferred but not required)
