    Job description

    This is a great opportunity for an FNP who enjoys primary care, values teamwork, and wants to make a meaningful difference in a close-knit community. New graduates are encouraged to apply. We offer a structured orientation and transition period with experienced FNP mentorship to help the selected provider build confidence and develop strong independent practice skills.
    Responsibilities

    • Provide comprehensive primary care services to patients of all ages, including children, adults, and older adults.
    • Complete patient assessments, medical histories, physical examinations, and appropriate diagnostic evaluations.
    • Diagnose and treat common acute illnesses, minor injuries, and chronic medical conditions.
    • Develop individualized treatment plans that reflect each patient's medical needs, goals, and circumstances.
    • Prescribe medications and educate patients about medication use, possible side effects, and recommended follow-up care.
    • Perform appropriate in-office procedures based on training and competency, including suturing, injections, venipuncture, wound care, and other basic outpatient procedures.
    • Order and interpret laboratory testing, imaging studies, and other diagnostic services.
    • Provide preventive and routine primary care services, including wellness examinations, well-child visits, sports physicals, Medicare Annual Wellness Visits, immunizations, and chronic disease management.
    • Educate patients regarding nutrition, medications, healthy lifestyle choices, preventive care, family planning, and disease management.
    • Accurately document patient encounters using Athenahealth while maintaining HIPAA compliance and professional documentation standards.
    • Provide telehealth services when appropriate and clinically indicated.
    • Coordinate referrals and collaborate with specialists, hospitals, pharmacies, and other members of the patient's healthcare team.
    • Participate in clinic quality-improvement efforts and help identify opportunities to improve patient care and clinic operations.
    • Maintain a caring, respectful, and professional environment for patients, families, and coworkers.
    • Help develop and maintain a personal patient panel as the provider becomes established within the practice.
    • Work the agreed-upon part-time schedule, with the option to discuss increasing hours or transitioning to full-time as the patient panel and clinic demand grow.
    • Communicate openly with clinic leadership regarding scheduling preferences, workload, patient volume, and interest in future growth.
    Qualifications
    • Current or pending Family Nurse Practitioner certification through an accredited national certifying organization.
    • Current or eligible New Mexico Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure.
    • Current or eligible DEA registration.
    • Current BLS certification.
    • Strong clinical judgment and a commitment to practicing evidence-based medicine.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
    • Strong organizational, time-management, and medical documentation skills.
    • Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and continue developing clinical knowledge and confidence.
    • Ability to work collaboratively while gradually developing the skills and confidence needed for independent practice.
    • Familiarity with Athenahealth or another electronic health record system is helpful but not required.
    • Previous outpatient, emergency, urgent care, hospital, pediatric, or family medicine experience is helpful but not required.
    • Basic understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding is preferred.
    • Ability to perform or willingness to learn common outpatient procedures.
    • New graduate Family Nurse Practitioners are encouraged to apply.
    • Availability to begin in a part-time role.
    • Interest in potentially growing with the clinic is welcomed, but a future transition to full-time employment is not required.
