Job description

Job purpose

The purpose of the position is to be responsible for the technical management, supervision and control of industrial production processes.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensures that all company safety practices and procedures are adhered to by all production, shipping/receiving and maintenance staff and leads by example; to include participating in health & safety meetings, continual improvement of health & safety procedures, and all company safety objectives are met or exceeded
  • Plan and organize production and shipping/receiving schedules in conjunction with the CAD Department, to include lead & delivery schedules
  • Assess project and resources requirements; manage all shop inventory
  • Implement and enforce all company quality control standards; to include supporting and participating in resolving quality issues to ensure that the products conform to the client’s requirements and specifications, ensuring that production employees respect and conform to the environmental standards and procedures set forth, and  ensuring that the production employees respect and work in accordance to the procedures of the ISO 9001 quality system
  • Oversee all production processes, ensure continuous improvement and most cost-effective methods
  • Ensure efficient collaboration and coordination between relevant departments including procurement, distribution, supply chain, sales (inside & outside) and management
  • Ensure that the standard operating procedures are followed, and assist with the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment
  • Crosstrain employees for maximum production flexibility
  • Prepare and maintain production reports as required (i.e., weekly, monthly)
  • Perform and participate in the recruitment and hiring processes for production staff, review worker performance, organize necessary interventions for improvement, and identify training needs

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 5 - 9+ years of experience in production and manufacturing processes, excellent technical knowledge in the steel, mining, industrial, recycling or maintenance repair industry, to include Supervisory experience
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Strong analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, able to delegate, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
  • Maintains good public relations by displaying an attitude of dedication, courtesy and professional competence that will be recognized as such by customers (internal and external)
  • Entrepreneurial; must have the ability to develop business, sales and marketing plans; ability to introduce new products and services, to include managing those processes
  • Bilingual in both official languages, orally & written (pending location)
  • Current/active driver’s license

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Experience in drawings, working with templates, and basic understanding and interest of CAD and nesting software
  • Experience in the cutting of steel with oxy-fuel or plasma
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality system and standards

Working conditions

Travel 10% of time in the field, at customer’s sites & Tuscaloosa, Alabama
