    Job description

    What does the team work on?

    The Tax Manager will be contributing to all areas of tax, including compliance and planning. The individual will report to the Tax Director. We are seeking a colleague who enjoys working collaboratively in a collegial team environment within a fast-paced growing company. The Tax Manager will be a qualified tax professional with solid experience in worldwide tax compliance, M&A, Inter-company transactions, US domestic and international income tax, and ASC 740. This role will require a person who is proactive and enjoys learning and new challenges. This role will be an active participant in income tax compliance and planning that is closely integrated with direct and indirect tax, in order to support the business from a holistic tax perspective.

     What is the role?

    The Manager, Indirect Tax joins Roku's growing team of tax professionals and contributes to all areas of indirect tax, including compliance and planning. This role serves as a qualified tax professional with solid experience in worldwide indirect tax compliance, working knowledge of digital services and supply chain logistics, and strong accounting and tax expertise. The Manager, Indirect Tax works with large datasets and high transaction volumes, leveraging strong analytical capabilities to extract meaningful insights from complex data. This individual is an active participant in planning that is closely integrated with income tax, supporting the business from a holistic tax perspective. The role also serves as a key member of Roku's finance team, with opportunities to contribute to shareholder value by assisting with the growth of the company's international expansion. This position reports to the Head of Tax/Senior Tax Director and requires a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys learning and tackling new challenges.

    For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $145,000 and 160,000 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.

     What are the responsibilities of the role?
    • Collaborate with the team to manage the accurate reporting of Roku and Roku foreign subsidiary indirect tax returns for VAT/GST and other applicable taxes
    • Evaluate technology and process improvements to enhance overall indirect tax compliance processes
    • Support the business and contribute to the implementation of tax planning strategies that maximize savings on a defensible basis
    • Conduct tax research and actively participate in the review of proposed transactions to properly advise management of tax consequences
    • Support the indirect tax integration of business acquisitions, dispositions, and restructurings
    • Provide support to US sales tax and GST/VAT processes, as well as other indirect taxes and business taxes as needed
    • Provide technical tax advice and planning services to a portfolio of projects
    • Build strong working relationships with internal project teams, developing an understanding of their unique needs and requirements
    • Maintain and develop subject matter expertise by monitoring emerging trends, technologies, and practices in indirect tax
    • Evaluate and respond to requests for information from government tax authorities and participate in developing strategies to successfully defend tax filing positions
    • Support the coordination and implementation of audit strategies
    • Stay abreast of legal developments and industry positions to accurately evaluate options and responses to requests for information
     What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, or a related field
    • CPA, MBA, or an advanced degree with an emphasis in taxation is a plus
    • 5-6 years of directly related tax experience in a Big 4 accounting firm, in-house industry role, or a combination of both
    • Proficiency in tax preparation and research tools (Avalara or equivalent, CCH or RIA)
    • Broad technical knowledge of US and international indirect tax laws and regulations
    • Strong accounting skills including intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and experience with statutory local accounting
    • Experience with digital services as well as tangible goods and supply chain logistics
    • Comfort working with large datasets and high transaction volumes, with strong analytical capabilities
