Job description

Training Specialist
Status: Exempt (salaried)
Department: Operations
Position Summary
The Training Specialist is a key member of the Operations team responsible for developing, delivering, and continuously improving training programs that support the manufacturing and shop floor workforce at Plug Power. The position plays a critical role in building employee capability, driving operational consistency, and ensuring that all personnel are equipped to perform their roles safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The Training Specialist is expected to lead training initiatives, mentor junior trainers, and collaborate cross-functionally to align training programs with evolving operational needs.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging and effective training programs for manufacturing and shop floor personnel, including new hire onboarding, skills-based training, and ongoing development curricula
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Plug Power's manufacturing processes, standard operating procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards to ensure training content is accurate and up to date
  • Partner with Process, Industrial, and Product Engineers to translate technical procedures and work instructions into accessible, effective training materials
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of training processes, leveraging Lean tools such as standard work, visual controls, and 5S to enhance learning outcomes on the shop floor
  • Develop and maintain training documentation including lesson plans, assessments, competency checklists, and training records in compliance with quality and regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through structured assessments, observation, and feedback loops; use data to identify gaps and drive improvements in training content and delivery
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and primary resource for shop floor training best practices, new process rollouts, and change management initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Quality, Safety, Engineering, and HR to ensure training programs support broader organizational goals and compliance requirements
  • Support Kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives by developing and delivering targeted training to sustain process changes
  • Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • BS in Education, Instructional Design, Engineering, or a STEM-related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • 5+ years' experience in a training, manufacturing, or operations role
  • Direct experience working in or training within a manufacturing or shop floor environment required
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and tools including 5S, standard work, and visual management
  • Experience developing training materials such as SOPs, work instructions, and competency assessments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software; experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to present to diverse audiences and leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple training programs and priorities concurrently
  • Uncompromising dedication to quality, safety, and workforce development
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to translate complex technical content into clear, practical training

Pay Rate:
$58,300.00 - $87,400.00
