PACS Administrator II / III

Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Location: Coachella Valley, CA

Schedule: Primarily Onsite — 4 Days Onsite / 1 Day Remote

Hours: 40 Hours/Week, Day Shift

Position Overview

We are seeking a PACS Administrator II or III to support enterprise imaging systems across radiology and cardiology. This position will support a modern, high-volume imaging environment that recently transitioned to a cloud-based Philips PACS platform and continues to evolve through new modalities, integrations, workflow improvements, and AI-enabled imaging technologies.

This opportunity can be filled at the PACS Administrator II or PACS Administrator III level, depending on the selected candidate’s experience, technical depth, certifications, and project leadership background.

The role combines hands-on PACS/RIS and Cardiology PACS (CPACS) administration, clinical workflow support, troubleshooting, modality connectivity, vendor coordination, and project work. Level III candidates will take greater ownership of complex system architecture, technical administration, upgrades, project leadership, and mentoring.

The position is primarily onsite. The first 90 days are expected to be fully onsite, with the opportunity to transition into the team’s current schedule of approximately four days onsite and one remote day per week over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PACS, RIS, and Cardiology PACS (CPACS) applications and associated imaging technologies.
  • Support radiologists, cardiologists, technologists, clinical staff, and other system users with application issues, service requests, and workflow optimization.
  • Configure and troubleshoot connectivity between imaging modalities, PACS, DICOM routers, post-processing applications, AI tools, and downstream systems.
  • Partner with radiologists and clinical users to create and optimize hanging protocols, exam filters, dictation profiles, voice-recognition workflows, reports, and other imaging workflows.
  • Troubleshoot PACS and interface issues and perform root cause analysis to identify and resolve recurring application, integration, and workflow problems.
  • Coordinate with technology vendors to troubleshoot issues, manage service requests, implement enhancements, and support upgrades.
  • Configure and integrate new imaging equipment and verify that modalities communicate and route studies appropriately.
  • Support implementation of new PACS functionality, imaging technologies, workflow improvements, and AI-enabled imaging solutions.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including application configurations, workflows, tickets, project documentation, integration drawings, and data-flow information.
  • Train and support clinical and technical users on imaging applications and workflows.
  • Monitor system performance, work queues, interfaces, and error logs and proactively address potential issues.
  • Participate in the RIS/PACS on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate effectively with clinical teams, IT staff, operational leaders, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Additional Level III Responsibilities

PACS Administrator III candidates will also be expected to:

  • Serve as a technical and workflow subject-matter expert for radiology and cardiology imaging applications.
  • Lead PACS/RIS/CPACS implementations, upgrades, integrations, and complex imaging projects from planning through execution.
  • Provide advanced technical administration across PACS applications, integrations, networking, servers, operating systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Evaluate application architecture and recommend configuration or architectural improvements.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting and process-improvement efforts and develop solutions that address issues at the root cause.
  • Independently plan and execute technical work while appropriately escalating project risks and issues.
  • Mentor PACS Administrator I/II team members in troubleshooting, modality configuration, documentation, workflow optimization, and technical skill development.
  • Partner with operational and IT leadership on imaging technology selection, workflow design, and strategic system improvements.
  • Lead larger projects and manage project scope, timelines, risks, technical requirements, and stakeholder communication.

The Level II position is expected to spend more time on day-to-day support and optimization, with approximately 30% of time potentially dedicated to projects, while Level III responsibilities may approach a 50/50 balance between operational support and project/complexity work.

Qualifications

Candidates may qualify at either the Level II or Level III depending on experience and credentials.

PACS Administrator II

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, healthcare, or a related field, or applicable additional experience in lieu of the degree.
  • Approximately five years of combined healthcare and technology experience, or equivalent relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

  • At least one relevant IT, imaging, application, or clinical certification/credential.
  • Working knowledge of PACS applications, imaging workflows, modality connectivity, system troubleshooting, and/or clinical imaging operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical and workflow issues and work effectively with clinical users and technology vendors.

Candidates may come from either a technical background—such as systems administration, servers, storage, or infrastructure that progressed into imaging—or a clinical imaging background that transitioned into PACS/technology administration.

PACS Administrator III

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, healthcare, or a related field, or four additional years of applicable experience in lieu of the degree.
  • 10 years of PACS Administrator experience, or 14 years in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience with interface troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with imaging clinical operations and workflows.
  • Project management or project leadership experience.
  • Multiple relevant technical, imaging, project-management, or clinical certifications.
  • Experience mentoring or developing other PACS/technical team members.

Relevant certifications may include DICOM, Epic, Radiant, Cupid, CIIP, CPAS, CPSA, Security+, Network+, HL7, Project+, PMP, or applicable clinical/imaging credentials.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where priorities and technologies continue to evolve. Enterprise imaging is a business-critical area, and the position requires someone who can balance technical problem-solving with responsive customer service.

Candidates should be able to work effectively with radiologists, cardiologists, technologists, vendors, IT teams, and operational stakeholders; manage competing priorities; adapt as requirements change; and take initiative in identifying and resolving issues.

The role is particularly well suited for someone interested in the continued evolution of enterprise imaging, including cloud PACS, new imaging modalities, workflow automation, system integrations, and AI-enabled imaging technologies.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, direct-hire position.
  • Day-shift schedule.
  • Primarily onsite in the Coachella Valley, California.
  • First 90 days expected to be fully onsite.
  • Opportunity to transition to approximately four onsite days and one remote day per week based on team practices and successful onboarding.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
