POSITION: Women in Tech Program  - Global IT Co-op (Fall 2026 - Toronto, 4 months)

Our co-op placements provide you with an excellent opportunity to practically apply your classroom and technical training with an organization that is strongly investing in IT to help strengthen its position a leading, global reinsurer.  While with our team, you'll be; coached by experienced industry professionals, exposed to Munich Re leadership, challenged as a valuable team member and contributor doing meaningful work, and mentored to develop a solid foundation that will help position you as a future leader in the IT field.

Munich Re is operating under a hybrid working model, including an average of 2-3 days in office/week with the remaining days working from home. Students are expected to relocate to the city in which they work for the duration of their co-op, so they can fully benefit from the full program integration. This provides a great opportunity to network, develop soft skills and become immersed within the greater Munich Re culture; including engaging with your team while in-office for face-to-face meetings, sharing meaningful moments, and allocating time to connect with your Manager.

Position Overview

As part of the Global IT team, you will be assigned a variety of responsibilities based on demand and interest with focus on developing essential skills and competencies as an IT professional.

Note that work placements by department will be assigned closer to the term start date based on a number of factors, not limited to: your interest, skill set, and internal business needs.  Potential departments could include: IT Solution Delivery, IT Data & Digital, and IT Enterprise Architecture.

Women in Tech Program Perks

Successful participants in the Women in Tech Program may receive a $1,500 (net) stipend upon successful completion of their work term, in addition to their regular co-op wages. Funds may be used toward tuition, student-related expenses, or debt repayment.

This program is designed to support women pursuing careers in technology. Participants will benefit from mentorship and networking opportunities with women leaders across the organization, as well as professional development experiences that help build valuable skills, connections, and career opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

Work term responsibilities will vary depending on the department you're placed; which may include, but not be limited to the following:

IT Data & Digital (Life & Health):

• Supporting AI projects (Machine Learning and GenAI) by actively collaborating with project teams
• Assisting in the development efforts for building secure AI-enabled applications
• Build integration with LLM's leveraging strong programming skills (python)
• Build data pipelines leveraging python programming and Databricks
• Assisting in performing analysis of data to derive behaviors and patterns

IT Enterprise Architecture:

• Support the analysis of current technology solutions and help maintain architecture repositories and inventories
• Assist the team with maintaining, testing, and enhancing internal applications and AI-powered tools to support global users
• Collaborate with architects and technology teams to gather information about applications, systems, and data flows
• Help create architecture artifacts including presentations, reports, and other project documentation
• Support activities related to application portfolio management and technology lifecycle tracking
• Assist with reviewing and organizing architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices
• Gain exposure to enterprise-scale technology platforms, cloud services, data analytics, and AI initiatives across Munich Re

IT Solution Delivery (Life & Health):

• Designing and analyzing reports and dashboards to meet departmental needs and requirements
• Supporting or leading small-scale strategic projects as requested
• Assisting senior team members in global co-ordination activities including formalizing agreed actions and key decisions
• Assisting with global financial planning activities
• Assisting in development efforts regarding IT projects, requirements, or business needs
• Assisting with various global team standardization efforts and setting up of associated processes

Qualifications

Specifically, we're looking for the following qualifications:

• Must identify as a woman to be eligible for participation in the Women in Tech Program.
• Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technology-focused field.
• Must be in good academic standing
• Basic understanding of networking (OSI layer), especially application layer protocols;
• Understanding of computer architecture and low-level machine code concepts;
• Ability creating simple programs to automate tasks using high-level programming languages as well as scripts;
• Excellent communication skills - spoken & written, formal/informal presentation;
• Demonstrated ability to create and manage positive professional relationships with good client service acumen;
• Proven capability to multi-task and successfully self-manage multiple priorities and projects of various significance;
• Exhibits solid organizational skills and rigorous attention to detail/accuracy in a fast-paced environment;
• Demonstrates leadership qualities - clear-thinking, curiosity, integrity, and drive;
• Proficient in Office 365 tools

Compensation for this position ranges from $1,200 to $1,500 per week. This range represents the typical compensation for candidates hired into this role. For eligible participants in the Women in Tech Program, the program stipend is provided in addition to regular co-op wages.

This role is located in our Toronto office on 390 Bay St, and we operate in a hybrid work model.
