Job description

Project Engineer I - Land Development

What if your next project shaped how communities grow and function?

At HR Green, our Civil Engineers don’t just design plans; they help build the roadway and utility infrastructure that supports how people live, move, and connect every day.

We’re looking for a Civil Project Engineer for our Land Development Group who’s ready to expand their technical impact and project task ownership as part of a dynamic team of professionals on development projects.

Why this role is different: This isn’t a narrow, siloed position.

You’ll perform utility, grading, and drainage design for site development projects, giving you the kind of well-rounded experience that accelerates your growth and opens doors to future leadership. In this role, you will contribute to the design and delivery of projects that include both commercial sites and residential communities, which can include expansion and/or extension of roadways and utility systems to support them.

You won’t just be “doing design work” you’ll be:

  • Influencing how projects are planned and executed
  • Seeing your work move from concept → to real world impact
  • You will be involved in planning, design, permitting, and construction support, gaining experience across the full project lifecycle.
  • You will manage work within project schedules and budgets and play an active role with the clients and municipalities in delivering successful outcomes.
  • In this role, you will have the opportunity to guide junior team members and contribute to the overall success of the team.

What you’ll be doing (aka where you make your impact)

  • Design and deliver civil/site projects—from grading and stormwater to water and wastewater systems
  • Take ownership of project components (and in some cases, entire projects)
  • Partner with internal teams, clients, and municipalities, to solve real-world challenges
  • Lead or contribute to QA/QC efforts to ensure high-quality, buildable designs
  • Support projects through the full lifecycle from early planning through construction
  • Mentor junior engineers and help elevate the team around you

You might be a great fit if…

  • You’re ready to move beyond task execution and want more ownership
  • You enjoy working across multiple project types instead of being siloed
  • You’re looking for a firm where growth doesn’t take 10+ years

What you bring

  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • PE (or ability to obtain soon) This is a MUST HAVE.
  • 5+ years of experience in civil engineering (land development preferred)
  • Experience with tools like Civil 3D, StormCAD, WaterCAD (or similar)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams

Why HR Green

Our people are the heart of our success. We strive to create an environment where employees feel inspired, supported, and empowered to do their best work. That dedication has earned us national recognition, including ranking No. 168 on Engineering News Record’s Top 500 Design Firms list in 2025 and being named a Best Place to Work.

We’re large enough to lead impactful projects anywhere in the country but structured so you can grow your career without waiting in line.

  • Clear pathways to leadership
  • Diverse project exposure across markets
  • A culture that values both technical excellence and people

Let’s make this easy, if you’ve been thinking about making a move but haven’t found the right mix of growth, impact, and opportunity this could be worth a conversation.
