We are seeking a Project Manager with S&T (Science & Technology) project experience to join our team in Austin. This role involves three key responsibilities:
  • Project Management, which involves collaborating closely with the Project Architect, Project Designer, and overall design team to ensure project success, financial performance, and effective team leadership. This involves overseeing projects through all phases, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with the design intent.
  • Operational support, which requires assisting the Practice Leader and Design Principal in the overall operations of the Austin studio.
  • Business development support through successfully delivering work, working with local consultant teams, attending events to further collaboration with HOK national business leaders, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management
  • Lead project team(s) as Project Manager.
  • Develops project scope, fee, schedule, and services during the marketing and contract development process.
  • Demonstrates strong judgment in knowing when to lead and when to delegate responsibilities to the appropriate team members.
  • Responsible for preparing consultant contracts and negotiating fees and contracts.
  • Ensures that budgets have been developed to provide for adequate hours and tasks including HOK's Quality Management Program and Sustainable Design solutions through the life of the project.
  • Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Provides adequate support, fees, and project engagement during the construction administration phase.
  • Consistently provides complete and timely communication of project information to and from clients and project team for successful project delivery.
  • Responsible for managing project using HOK's Project Management system; completes work plans, including identification of project team members, budget, consultants, schedule for completion, fees, and costs as well as project change notices or other actions taking place on the assigned project.

Client Interface
  • Responsible for maintaining, fostering, and shepherding client relationships throughout project.
  • Keeps client apprised of project progress on regular basis.
  • Initiates and maintains contact with other key project individuals for clarification, coordination, and negotiation of critical issues.
  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service through stakeholder engagement, management of expectations, and addressing concerns in a timely manner.
  • Primary point of contact with client.
  • Leads project team to determine function and spatial requirements in line with project scope, estimated cost, and project schedule.
  • Works with the design team to prepare information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, and equipment. Plans layouts of projects and confirms integration of engineering elements into a unified design for client review and approval.
  • Leads client presentations and assists in the development of collateral for meetings.

Business Development
  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative working relationship with the Regional Leadership team, HOK RBU and MBU leaders, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships. Listens for and seeks out new projects which may exist or are being formulated.
  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities, including RFQ and RFP responses and project interviews.
  • Assists in development of fee proposals for marketing proposals.

Staff Development
  • Provides leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed. Makes recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations for project team.
  • May participate in interviews and recruiting of future staff.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of a complex scope.
  • Ability to be flexible in multi-tasking and assignment adjustments.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere.
  • Able to demonstrate proven and effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge of design trends, construction methodology, construction documentation, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IDP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint preferred. (HOK uses this system for project management.)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required.
  • Licensed Architect with current registration required.
  • NCARB registration preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in architectural practice with at least 3 years' management experience in all phases of projects through post-occupancy.
  • LEED credential required within 6 months of employment start date.
