Job description

Description

The Parts Counter Person is responsible for assisting internal and external customers with identifying, sourcing, and selling genuine Ford and aftermarket parts. This role supports the service department, body shop, and retail customers by providing accurate parts information, timely fulfillment, and exceptional customer service while maintaining inventory accuracy and dealership profitability. 


Schedule: Full-time; may include evenings or Saturdays based on dealership needs.

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage and/or commission structure based on experience.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist technicians, service advisors, and retail customers at the parts counter and by phone.
  • Identify correct parts using Ford EPC/catalogs, VIN decoding, and service documentation.
  • Quote prices, process sales, and generate invoices using the dealership management system (DMS).
  • Pull, stage, and deliver parts to technicians in a timely manner to support efficient repair flow.
  • Order parts from Ford and approved vendors; track backorders and follow up proactively.
  • Receive, stock, and label incoming parts; verify accuracy against packing slips.
  • Maintain clean, organized parts, storage and counter areas.
  • Handle returns, cores, warranties, and credits according to Ford and dealership policies.
  • Assist with inventory control, including cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
  • Promote related parts and accessories when appropriate.
  • Comply with all dealership, Ford Motor Company, and safety policies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • 1+ year of automotive parts experience preferred (dealership experience a plus). 
  • Working knowledge of automotive systems and terminology. 
  • Ability to read repair orders and interpret technical information. 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Basic computer skills: experience with DMS and Ford parts systems preferred. 
  • Valid driver's license. 
  • Customer-focused with professional communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities. 
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Team-oriented with a positive attitude. 
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to research and resolve parts issues.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance. 
  • Frequent walking, bending, and reaching within the parts warehouse. 
  • Work indoors with occasional exposure to shop environment conditions. 
  • Preferred: Ford dealership parts experience. Familiarity with Ford systems such as FMCDealer, PTS, and Ford EPC. Experience supporting a high-volume service department. Bilingual abilities (where applicable).
