The Opportunity | Senior Embedded Systems Engineer

As a Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer in our Dayton facility, you will be responsible for all aspects of development within an embedded systems environment. You will support activities including requirements definition, design capture, debugging, testing, documenting, support and at the most senior level, may provide architecture, mentoring, and team leadership.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $150,000 per year plus bonus

Your Challenge:

  • Provide multi-layered technical expertise for next generation initiatives.

  • Provide system architecture definition based on required functionality.

  • Conceives system interfaces and business application prototypes.

  • Write requirements.

  • Analyze requirements and develop design alternatives.

  • Influences the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems.

  • Design, develop and test new embedded hardware.

  • Support and enhance existing embedded hardware.

  • Apply established development processes and assist in process improvement.

  • Develop test procedures and execute verification testing

  • Generate complete and accurate user and design documentation.

  • Perform/coordinate various analyses in support of detailed design of components, major assemblies, software and systems.

  • Design of high-speed hardware including schematic capture and layout

  • Review and validation of high-speed designs and layouts

  • Provide input and evaluation of new technologies and products.

  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses.

  • Provide task breakdowns and accurate estimates for project planning.

  • Provide mentoring for junior engineering staff.

  • Assist in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team.

  • Liaise with customers.

Your Expertise:

SKILLS

  • Strong sense of responsibility, commitment to quality and achieving deadlines.

  • Knowledge of computer engineering processes and standards.

  • Excellent ability to understand, break down and analyze system level requirements

  • Strong understanding of system engineering concepts and systematic problem-solving skills

  • Well versed in the latest rugged/embedded technologies commonly utilized in the defense/aerospace industry

  • Able to quickly and effectively resolve complex engineering problems

  • Solid communication, presentation and organizational skills

  • Ability to think outside the box and systematically deal with highly dynamic engineering situations

  • Strong debug/integration/troubleshooting experience -- act as a leader and a sounding board for the department

  • Well versed in Microsoft Office Suite

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with minimum 10 years' experience.

  • Experience in the following is an asset:

    • Embedded Hardware knowledge and experience with processor systems (Intel, ARM, PIC, Atmel, NXP)

    • Strong knowledge of hardware interfaces and buses like Ethernet, PCIe, PCI, Fibre Channel, I2C, SPI, USB

    • Validation and production test methodologies.

    • Reading/understanding IC datasheets, board schematics.

    • Diagnostic tools like Digital Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, DVMs, etc.

    • Project management

    • FPGA development using hardware descriptor languages such as Verilog or VHDL is an asset

    • Hardware design with Altium

    • Cybersecurity and NIAP Common Criteria is a bonus

  • US citizen required
