Crossfire Consulting is seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Systems Manager to lead the operations of their Mainframe Systems team within the Shared Systems Division. This role is crucial for maintaining the stability and performance of IBM mainframe systems and leading strategic initiatives to enhance infrastructure reliability.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the Mainframe Systems team, ensuring optimal collaboration and SLA adherence.
• Oversee daily operations including z/OS administration, performance management, hardware configuration, and disaster recovery planning.
• Analyze system performance and lead capacity planning efforts.
• Develop and manage hardware and software upgrade projects.
• Stay current with mainframe software versions and maintain system documentation.
• Serve as the primary liaison with software and hardware vendors for planning and support.
• Drive implementation of new technologies that align with agency needs.
• Ensure compliance with all FISA-OPA technical policies and procedures.
• Plan and forecast costs for hardware and software in accordance with budget cycles.
• Provide off-hours support for system upgrades and critical incident resolution.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field with at least 4 years of experience in datacenter, cloud, or infrastructure engineering; OR
• Bachelor’s degree in any field with 8 years of relevant experience; OR
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
• 20+ years in infrastructure management, ideally in a large-scale environment.
• Expertise in IBM mainframe systems, subsystems, and internals, or comparable AIX/Linux/Unix systems.
• Strong knowledge of z/OS structure, logic, and security.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver results under pressure.
• Capable of independently learning new technologies and troubleshooting complex issues.
