Primary Function

Primarily responsible for testing each unit for fit, form and function. Verifies correct manufacturing processes are adhered to.  Documents all final defect data and performs in process audits on the line as the units are being constructed. The inspector will trouble-shoot any malfunctioning unit and assist in making the necessary repairs. Works with other inspectors, engineers and quality personnel to identify and resolve potential customer issues. Also works as a team member in the assembly area to perform operations to improve line production and quality. Responsible for conducting effective product and subassembly inspections while participating in interdepartmental activities to support quality improvement efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all functional testing / troubleshooting of completed units for compliance to all quality standards including fit, form and function, including documentation of all assembly and test results.
  • Verifies the information on the work order header is correct such as BOM part numbers, quantities, and consuming locations. Follows procedures to see that info gets corrected.
  • Attaches quality test labels.
  • May crate or box completed units and attach shipping labels.
  • Inspect assemblies/subassemblies, and processes during all phases of manufacturing while identifying differences between establishment standards and actual production and suggest modifications to conform to standards.
  • Provide quality support on quality-related inquiries using database, drawings, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Inspect along the assembly lines and help identify and correct errors in process.
  • Responsible for staying current with the latest Engineering design requirements and ensuring that any changes in manufacturing are verified correct.
  • Monitor the Preventive Maintenance of quality measurement tools throughout the production area.
  • Reports serious and repetitive quality problems and suggests root cause solutions to the supervisor.
  • Responsible for the identification and reporting of general safe practices.
  • Responsible for proper care and cleaning of the equipment, following all safety policies and guidelines and maintaining the area's organization and housekeeping.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy of raw materials in the area and assists with cycle counting.
  • Assists other team members with their operations to improve efficiency, line balance and quality workmanship.
  • May be required to perform production assembly operations as needed and directed by the supervisor on a temporary or permanent basis.
  • Performs all other and any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Manufacturing experience required
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer knowledge and navigation is required.
  • Must be able to use measuring equipment such as rulers, tape measures, calipers, voltmeters.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, bills of material, blueprints, drawings, technical documents, and statistical charts.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers, suppliers, ASME Authorized Inspectors, IAS (AGA/CGA) agents, and representatives of similar organizations. Clear verbal communication is essential.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic shop mathematics and apply statistical process control techniques. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to use fractions and decimals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently (Performed one-third (1/3) of the shift (2 hours- half of the shift) twist, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Constantly (Performed over two-thirds (2/3) of the shift or more (over half the shift) standing and walking for entire shift; bending; reaching; Climbing; using ladders; Using hands to finger, handle, feel; reaching with hands/arms; talk, hear and smell. Ability to lift & carry 50 lbs. Use of pulsating, vibrating, and/or wrenching hand tools (air, pneumatic, etc._ to complete tasks.
  • Occasionally(Performed under one-third (1/3) of the shift (anything under 2 hours of the shift) sit; balance; Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Vision Requirements: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • PPE Requirements: Must be physically able to use department appropriate PPE.
