We are seeking an experienced SAP Project Manager to take ownership of a complex ERP implementation and lead the organization through project transition, go-live preparation, and long-term SAP roadmap execution.

This person will serve as the primary project owner for the SAP initiative, working closely with the implementation vendor, current IT leadership, internal developers, business stakeholders, and executive leadership. The immediate priority is to bring structure, accountability, and technical/business judgment to an active SAP implementation with a targeted January go-live.

The ideal candidate has strong SAP implementation project management experience, understands the technical considerations involved in SAP development and customization, and can guide decisions around timelines, costs, risks, integrations, plugins, data migration, testing, and deployment. This person does not need to be the primary hands-on developer, but they must be technical enough to understand what developers are doing, evaluate options, challenge recommendations when needed, and communicate tradeoffs clearly to business leadership.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and manage the SAP implementation project through transition, preparation, go-live, stabilization, and future phases.
  • Serve as the primary owner of the SAP project plan, timeline, deliverables, risks, priorities, and roadmap.
  • Conduct an initial discovery and transition period with the current CIO, implementation vendor, lead developer, junior developer, and internal stakeholders.
  • Gradually assume ownership of the SAP project while maintaining continuity with existing technical resources.
  • Manage the implementation vendor and internal development resources to ensure work is prioritized, tracked, and aligned to business needs.
  • Drive project planning, system transition activities, testing coordination, data migration readiness, deployment preparation, and go-live execution.
  • Evaluate SAP-related development approaches, customizations, integrations, plugins, SDKs, reporting needs, and system enhancement options.
  • Provide clear recommendations on technical tradeoffs, including pros, cons, timelines, costs, risks, and business impact.
  • Help establish structure, accountability, and clearer ownership across the broader SAP and IT project environment.
  • Translate business requirements into practical SAP project priorities and technical direction.
  • Facilitate communication across technical and non-technical teams to ensure visibility, alignment, and follow-through.
  • Identify project risks, gaps, dependencies, and resource constraints before they impact go-live readiness.
  • Support post-go-live stabilization and future SAP roadmap initiatives over the next several years.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, technical contributors, and business leaders.
  • Increase onsite presence during critical project phases, including go-live preparation and launch.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven experience managing SAP implementation projects.
  • Strong understanding of SAP implementation lifecycles, including planning, transition, data migration, testing, deployment, go-live, and post-go-live support.
  • Ability to own project timelines, deliverables, risks, vendor coordination, stakeholder communication, and implementation execution.
  • Technical fluency within SAP environments, including the ability to understand development work, customization decisions, integrations, plugins, and system enhancement options.
  • Ability to evaluate technical recommendations and explain pros, cons, timelines, costs, and risks to business stakeholders.
  • Experience managing implementation vendors, developers, technical resources, and cross-functional business stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to bring structure, accountability, and calm project leadership to a complex or challenged implementation environment.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a full-time internal employee in a hybrid environment.
  • Ability to work onsite in South Hackensack, NJ three days per week, with additional onsite presence during go-live and other critical project periods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • SAP Business One experience.
  • SAP HANA experience.
  • Experience with Boyum or other SAP add-ons/plugins.
  • Experience managing SAP development decisions involving SDKs, custom development, integrations, reporting, or plugin strategy.
  • Experience working with or managing SAP developers.
  • Experience rescuing, stabilizing, or re-scoping delayed ERP implementations.
  • Consulting or implementation consulting background.
  • Experience migrating from a proprietary ERP system into SAP.
  • Experience with item master data, reporting, business logic migration, or technical specification transfer.
  • Interest in growing into a broader IT leadership role over time.
