DEFINITION:
The Transportation Operations Manager ensures efficient and safe operation of the Transportation department by managing the day-to-day functions.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Directly reports to the Director of Transportation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION - 75%
  • Manage daily and long term operational activities including staffing, organization and coordination
  • Develop and manage schedules for sub drivers, trip drivers, route drivers, and cover drivers while communicating all details to schools, and mechanics
  • Manage trip coordination both internally and externally - develop, implement, supervise and collect payment for MOU and contract
  • Provide input on policy and planning to department leadership
  • Provide input on the development of department goals and priorities
  • Manage the assignment leave and pay for department employees; process payroll
  • Prepare District Transportation CDE 40 reports to the State of Colorado
  • Hire and manage drivers
  • Fill role of Transportation Director in their absence

DISTRICT WIDE/COMMUNITY TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT-15%
  • Coordinate minibus assignment for District-wide activities
  • Ensure compliance with all policies, systems and procedures
  • Maintain student safety as a first priority for all decisions
  • Maintain school site relations
  • Assist with dispatch when needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

FINANCE -10%
  • Serve as the department financial manager - includes reconciling bank statements and P-cards, submitting reimbursement requests, initiating purchase orders and submitting invoices to Finance at the District Office; maintain all paperwork on file for audit

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Lead and coordinate a large group of itinerant employees.

  • Make real time decisions safely and efficiently

Knowledge of:
  • School district transportation department processes, procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Up-to-date communication methods, systems, and software.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Experience:
Previous management experience in a team oriented workplace preferred.
Training:
High School Diploma Required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's license with appropriate endorsements to drive a school bus as needed.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have satisfactory outcome of background and fingerprinting check, and drug screening prior to starting employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The noise level is usually moderate. Office environment; exposure to computer screens and use of a keyboard. Occasional travel required including driving a bus.
Physical Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand. Occasional lifting of 25 pounds or less.
The Transportation Operations Manager is scheduled to work 260 days and is an exempt employee.
SALARY RANGE AND DAYS WORKED
Range: $76,724 - $96,750/year, depending on qualified experience
Days worked: 260 days/year (with paid personal time, paid vacation days, and paid time off for holidays and district non-work days such as during winter break and spring breaks)
