Job description

What you will do
The Vocational Trainee role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to support/promote the student's career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The vocational trainee experience enables students to participate in professional activities for Volvo Group by working on important and innovative projects. Vocational Trainee positions are structured learning experiences where students and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. This allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Construction Equipment.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to produce metal parts.
  • Review electronic or written blueprints or specification
  • Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations
  • Loading and unloading of parts on machine center
  • Monitor and control feed rate and speed
  • Detect problems by listening for specific sounds
  • Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations
  • Monitor accuracy of cuts
  • Replace dull cutting tools
  • Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications
  • Produce large quantities of parts
  • Wrote basic programs
  • Modify programs in response to problems

Who are you?
  • Student must be currently enrolled and pursuing the Machining world.
  • Student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $17.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
