Senior Estimator – High-Volume Stone & Countertop Production

Location: Ottawa, ON (On-site) Job Type: Full-Time Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000 CAD per year Reports To: Chief Estimator


Company Description VESTA has been serving the National Capital Region for over 40 years as a specialist in fabricating and installing a wide range of natural stone products. The company has grown into one of the region’s premier home renovation centers and is recognized nationally for its expertise in natural stone fabrication, installation, and service. VESTA is accredited by the National Stone Institute, demonstrating its commitment to quality and industry best practices. The company is an active member in good standing with the Ottawa Construction Association, the Greater Ottawa Homebuilders Association (GOHBA), and the NKBA, giving team members access to a strong professional network and ongoing industry developments.


Role Description The Senior Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Ottawa, ON, responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for natural stone fabrication and installation projects. Day-to-day activities include reviewing architectural drawings and specifications, conducting site visits as needed, and performing detailed quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment. The role involves developing cost proposals, coordinating with project managers, sales teams, and fabrication staff, and updating estimates as project scope evolves. The Senior Estimator will also analyze historical data, maintain pricing databases, and contribute to process improvements to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency. This position collaborates closely with clients and internal stakeholders to clarify project requirements, manage bid timelines, and support successful project delivery from initial quote to final installation.


Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong estimating and cost analysis skills, including experience with quantity take-offs, budget preparation, and bid proposals for construction or renovation projects.
  • Candidates should possess proficiency with construction and estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital tools for measurement, documentation, and reporting.
  • Candidates should possess solid knowledge of construction methods and materials, ideally with direct experience in natural stone, millwork, or related trades.
  • Candidates should possess analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret drawings, resolve discrepancies, and provide accurate, data-driven recommendations.
  • Candidates should possess excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with clients, sales teams, project managers, and fabrication/installation crews.
  • Candidates should possess strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple bids, tight deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience in estimating for construction or renovation projects is highly valued.
  • Previous experience in a senior or lead estimator role within the construction or home renovation industry is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of local building codes, industry standards, and trade association practices in the National Capital Region is beneficial.
