Job description

Overview
DecisionPoint seeks a Database Administrator (Oracle) to support daily database operations, maintenance, tuning, and security within a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role ensures reliable performance of Oracle database systems across development, test, staging, and production environments while maintaining security, availability, and compliance with DoD requirements.
The Oracle DBA is responsible for monitoring, backup execution, schema updates, indexing optimization, and troubleshooting operational issues that impact mission-critical applications and data flows.
This position is fully remote.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Oracle Database Administrator will:
  • Perform daily Oracle database administration, monitoring, maintenance, and health checks.
  • Develop and manage maintenance plans, job schedules, and database housekeeping routines.
  • Execute and validate backups, restores, and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity.
  • Apply patching, version updates, and configuration changes across environments.
  • Support schema updates, index optimization, table maintenance, and data structure enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues, query bottlenecks, and system errors across dev/test/prod environments.
  • Maintain auditing, logging, encryption, and access controls in accordance with DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Document database configurations, operational processes, and environment baselines.
  • Collaborate with development teams to validate stored procedures, queries, and database interactions.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity staff to remediate vulnerabilities, STIG findings, and compliance gaps.
  • Support release cycles, refreshes, data migrations, and environment synchronization activities.
  • Provide recommendations for performance improvement, storage utilization, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications
Clearance Requirement
Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation.
Education (Required)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Administration, or a related discipline.
Experience (Required)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Oracle database administration.
  • Experience performing daily maintenance, patching, tuning, and operational monitoring.
  • Experience supporting database operations across development, test, and production environments.
  • Experience with indexing, query performance troubleshooting, and schema management.
  • Experience applying DoD security requirements to Oracle database systems.

Technical Knowledge (Required)
  • Strong expertise with Oracle Database technologies and administration tools.
  • Knowledge of RMF controls, STIGs, encryption, and access control implementation.
  • Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery tools, RMAN, and Oracle data utilities.
  • Experience with monitoring platforms and performance analytics.

Technical Knowledge (Preferred)
  • Experience with IL5 cloud-hosted database environments.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD or DevSecOps workflows involving database changes.
  • Familiarity with other relational database platforms.

Certifications
Required:
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Oracle Database Administrator certification (OCA, OCP, or equivalent)

Preferred:
  • AWS Database Specialty
  • CISSP or CCSP

Skills
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting ability for Oracle database issues.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with technical teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation discipline.
