Job description

ARA’s team solves problems related to national defense and security.  We are actively searching for a Staff Construction Field Engineer to join our Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC-IHD) support team to help with extensive modernization and new construction projects on facilities and capabilities of national importance.  A Staff Construction Field Engineer is required to support design & construction efforts for several critical energetics manufacturing capabilities. This role will assist with baseline & monthly schedule update reviews, Construction RFI & submittal processing/reviews, invoice review & processing, resolution of constructability issues, installation quality control, and Permit coordination for various energetics production facilities currently undergoing modernization. Knowledge of general Construction processes, construction sequence & scheduling, equipment installation, and ability to read & interpret Drawings & Specifications is required to successfully accomplish this tasking. This work is in direct support of ongoing production process realization efforts. Experience in industrial manufacturing facility construction and/or ability to interpret Construction contracts & subcontracts is preferred.

Work Environment Details: The duties of this role must be performed entirely onsite within a high-activity environment that features standard industrial/office lighting and ambient noise. Because continuous proximity to the team and operations is an essential function of the position, certain workspace modifications—such as isolating the worker in a quiet, dimly lit, or entirely private office—cannot be accommodated while fulfilling the core responsibilities of this role.

Employment is contingent upon the successful attainment of at least an Interim Secret clearance, granted by the sponsoring agency.

Due to the nature of this work, candidates for this position must be US citizens residing within the US. This position is located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head and will require you to be onsite. This position does not allow for a remote or hybrid work schedule.

Requirements of a Construction Manager

  • Bachelor’s in Construction Management or civil engineering or equivalent, with
    2-4 years of experience conducting and managing onsite construction projects including: concrete work, electrical and plumbing.
  • Knowledge of construction technology.
  • Ability and experience in supervising and directing the work of sub-contractors.
  • Strong proficiency in using industry-standard software and engineering tools
  • Physical ability to stand, work, and move on construction sites across uneven ground for up to 10 hours per day.
  • Must be proficient in English.
  • Must be able to read Drawing sets and understand combined specifications.
  • Fulltime onsite construction support (NSWC-IHD).
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Candidates must be independent; self-motivated; and have excellent technical, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to obtain security clearance

Preferences

  • 4+ years’ experience conducting and managing onsite construction projects including: concrete work, electrical, and plumbing. Knowledge of construction technology
  • Active Security clearance.  
  • Experience with Naval facilities, NAVFAC, NOSSA
  • Experience with manufacturing facilities
  • Experience with energetic processing facilities and other high-hazard facility operations.
