Role and Responsibilities

We're searching for a Director of Communications to join our dynamic North America Service Business team (NASB) at Samsung Electronics America. The way consumers connect, discover the world, and seek news and entertainment is changing every day. While Samsung's world-class hardware creates the foundation, it is software and services that keep consumers engaged daily. Products like Samsung Gaming Hub, Art Store, Samsung News and Galaxy Store are bringing 'everyday extraordinary' to millions of consumers across the globe. This role will elevate the awareness of Samsung's portfolio of services and shape how media, consumers, advertisers and partners perceive them. This position will be based in New York, NY.


Responsibilities

The Director of Communications will develop and execute comprehensive B2C communications strategies for Samsung's services business and executive leadership. This individual will report into the Head of Communications & Events to support all key strategic partnerships and proprietary services across TV and mobile, including but not limited to: Samsung Gaming Hub, Samsung News, Galaxy Store and Art Store on The Frame. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams across global offices to support business objectives.

This communications leader will:

  • Direct all strategic B2C initiatives to increase brand awareness and credibility of our Samsung Services for consumers, advertisers and partners.

  • Set key performance metrics on an annual basis and diligently track ongoing progress, with the goal of accelerating meaningful growth YoY.

  • Monitor daily press coverage for Samsung Services and stay apprised of relevant industry news and innovations.

  • Plan, coordinate and lead meetings across various teams to share PR strategies, updates and results.

  • Draft executive keynotes, press announcements, executive quotes, blogposts and more.

  • Continually refresh foundational materials including press pitches, master messaging documents, media lists, industry event databases, briefing books and award opportunities.

  • Gather internal and external stakeholder approvals across multiple internal teams and third party partners.

  • Maintain and organize a database of all press assets and images for easy access across global Samsung teams.

  • Oversee marketing communications for brand consistency via social media channels, email/newsletter distribution, as well as internal employee communications.

  • Manage product sampling for press, including device procurement, tracking, delivery, white glove installation and tutorials.

  • Align with marketing leads on product messaging and key talking points to include in press materials.

  • Partner with the creative director to develop rich media kits (press images, videos, logos).

  • Foster strong relationships with key reporters across business, consumer and tech press, with the ability to create bespoke media lists for each service.

  • Maintain an ongoing editorial calendar across multiple teams within the organization.

  • Increase visibility for senior leadership by identifying, securing and executing speaking opportunities, background briefings, and 1:1 interviews.

  • Provide coaching and guidance to the leadership team to enhance communication and presentation effectiveness.

  • Develop crisis communications and risk mitigation plans in collaboration with Corporate Communications.

  • Partner with HR to develop internal communications strategies to inform the broader team of key upcoming initiatives.

  • Manage multiple external PR agencies across different verticals and areas of expertise.

  • Lead weekly calls, procure information, review all deliverables, and share updates with multiple marketing leads.

  • Manage vendor contracts in collaboration with the legal team and operations lead.

  • Contribute updates to weekly and quarterly MarComm reports.

  • Work with the analytics team to source relevant performance metrics and craft a narrative around those numbers.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years of experience in PR/communications with a deep knowledge of consumer, tech and business media. Agency experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Proven track record for developing and executing comprehensive PR strategies.

  • Extensive understanding of the OTT landscape and competitive TV/mobile ecosystems.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.

  • Executive presence, with the ability to influence and provide counsel to leadership.

  • Experience creating and presenting strategy plans and recap decks to track performance towards goals. Must have proficiency in deck creation and design.

  • Experience with risk mitigation and corporate reputation management.

  • Foundational knowledge in other communications channels, including social media and email.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong PR acumen and the ability to instinctually make strategic decisions.

  • Ability to juggle multiple priority projects at once without sacrificing quality or attention to detail.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to draft compelling and polished materials. Must have eagle eyes for grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling when proofing written documents.

  • Constant dissatisfaction with the status quo and an infectious desire to push boundaries to drive growth.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and continuous change in a fast-paced environment.

  • Cross-organizational collaboration with ability to influence others.

  • A bias for action and the ability to successfully serve multiple constituents and effectively manage one's own time and the time of others.

Skills and Qualifications

The salary range for this role is expected to be between $200,000 and $230,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
