Job description

About the role:

This is a defining opportunity for a Senior Product Manager to own how every Samsara device comes to life.

Samsara ships hundreds of thousands of devices a year to fleets, construction sites, and depots worldwide. A single customer rollout can exceed 50,000 devices, where every minute saved per install compounds into weeks of deployment time. Each device has a five-minute window where it goes from a box in someone's hands to a live sensor feeding a customer's operation. You will own those five minutes and the multi-year vision for what they become.

The install experience is critical to the compounding value of every Samsara product. A camera aimed correctly on day one trains better safety models. A gateway reporting cleanly makes every downstream workflow trustworthy.

You will own the software install experience end to end, with a dedicated engineering and design team, and you will own one number: install correctness, the share of installs completed right on the first attempt. Correctness today swings by several points depending on whether the installer uses the Samsara Fleet App, and closing that gap for every install is the first prize. Your target is an install under five minutes of active app time that confirms its own health before the installer walks away.

You are building for two people who each get the same five minutes. A contracted technician on their twentieth install of the day wants speed. A customer's shop mechanic on their first wants guidance that assumes nothing. Both are standing in a truck bay, holding a phone, sometimes without signal.

To understand the scale of this problem, review the Samsara Vehicle Gateway here, our full hardware lineup here, and our installer partner network here.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact, helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won't be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
  • You're energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
  • You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.
In this role, you will:
  • Own the three-year vision for device installation and provisioning, defining how Samsara hardware comes online as the platform expands across new products, device types, and geographies.
  • Own install correctness. Set the target, instrument the funnel so every outcome is attributable, and move the number quarter over quarter.
  • Own the guided install and verification flow in the Samsara Fleet app, for professional installers and for customers who install hardware themselves.
  • Build the intelligence that verifies an install is correct, checking camera aim, wiring, and signal quality while the installer is still standing at the vehicle.
  • Give operations leaders a live view of fleet readiness: what is installed, what is verified, and what is producing data.
  • Ride along on installs and run sessions in customer yards, then turn what you observe into roadmap that shapes hardware, firmware, and software decisions.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles as we scale globally.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 7+ years of product management experience shipping products used by external customers.
  • A record of owning a business or product metric and changing its trajectory, with a before and after you can walk us through.
  • Experience building something from zero to one without a spec, a defined customer, or a playbook.
  • Technical depth sufficient for engineers to treat you as a peer: a degree in Computer Science or Engineering, prior experience as an engineer, or demonstrated fluency in system architecture trade-offs.
  • Proven ability to operate at both altitudes, setting multi-year direction and reviewing the details of a screen flow in the same week.
  • Executive-level communication and presence, comfortable presenting and defending strategy to the CEO, CPO, and customers.
  • Based in a North American time zone. We will consider strong candidates in Europe.

We do not require prior experience with hardware, vehicles, telematics, or field installation. We hire for technical depth, evidence of building from zero to one, and a record of owning a number and moving it.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience building mobile products for people who work with their hands, in loud, time-pressured, or offline conditions.
  • A habit of primary research, with specific examples of what watching a customer taught you that a dashboard could not.
  • Prior work on products where software and hardware depend on each other.
  • Experience instrumenting a funnel and running experiments against it.
