Job description

Overview
At REI, we aim to create seamless, meaningful experiences for our members and customers across every digital moment. As Vice President, Digital Commerce, you will set the strategic vision and lead execution for our digital commerce ecosystem, including eCommerce platforms, mobile applications, and omnichannel integrations.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will guide the modernization of our digital and marketing technology stack, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and built for personalization. You will lead the integration of commerce, marketing, and loyalty platforms to enable data-driven engagement and differentiated customer experiences.
This role plays a key part in advancing REI as an AI-forward organization. You will evaluate and apply emerging technologies-such as AI-driven personalization and composable commerce-to accelerate innovation and improve customer outcomes. Success in this role requires strong technical depth, strategic thinking, and the ability to align teams, systems, and priorities to deliver measurable business value.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Responsibilities
  • Define and deliver the strategy for digital commerce platforms, including web, mobile, and omnichannel experiences
  • "Always on" tracking of industry evolution and technology innovation
  • Lead cross-functional modernization of the commerce and recommerce ecosystem, improving scalability, performance, and flexibility
  • Oversee marketing technology platforms (CRM, CDP, personalization, and analytics) to enable data-driven engagement and campaign effectiveness
  • Guide evolution of loyalty and membership platforms, integrating them with commerce and marketing systems to support personalized experiences
  • Establish architectural direction across digital, MarTech, and loyalty systems, including APIs, cloud platforms, and enterprise integrations
  • Build and lead a global high-performing team while managing budgets, vendors, and cross-functional partnerships with rigor and transparency

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in digital commerce and marketing technology, preferably in omnichannel retail
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale platform modernization and end-to-end digital transformation initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of eCommerce platforms, cloud environments, APIs, and integration frameworks
  • Experience with marketing technology platforms, including customer data, personalization, and campaign tools
  • 10+ years in agile, frontend and backend software engineering, including CICD, web and mobile, search, ontology and most common development platforms
  • Proven ability to lead distributed teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including senior leadership up to C-level

Preferred
  • Experience with composable or headless commerce architectures
  • Background working in AI-enabled environments or applying AI to customer experience and personalization
  • Experience with loyalty, membership, or reward platforms
  • Professional certifications (e.g., AWS, Salesforce)
  • Interest in sustainability and ethical technology practices
