Job description

Cardiac Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Spokane, WA

General Information:

  • Beds: 38
  • Type: Level 3 Trauma Center

Experience Required:

Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac or progressive care experience required. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Patient Types / Common Diagnoses:

  • Cardiac and Vascular Care Conditions:
    • Myocardial Infarction (MI)
    • Post-operative open-heart surgery (including TAVR and fem-pop bypass within 24 hours)
    • Pre- and post-operative open-heart patients (24-48 hours post-op)
    • Cardiac arrhythmias
    • Tikosyn therapy
    • Pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs)
    • PCU-level patients (requiring higher care but not meeting ICU criteria)
    • Post-cardiac catheterization patients (femoral and radial approaches)
    • Carotid and thoracotomy patients transitioning from ICU
    • Microvascular flap procedures (typically not assigned to travelers due to low patient volume)
    • Amputations related to vascular complications
  • Cardiac Telemetry Conditions:
    • Chest pain evaluation
    • Stress testing
    • Heart catheterization
    • Arrhythmia management
    • Percutaneous interventions
    • Pacemaker upgrades

Department Support:

  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA): 2-4 per shift
  • Free Floating Charge Nurse
  • Flex Nurse available from 0700-1930, assisting with admissions, discharges, and various tasks
  • Hospitalist coverage 24/7
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • Cardiologist on-call 24/7
  • Telemetry technicians: 2 per shift

Technology and Equipment:

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR): EPIC
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
  • Philips monitors (portable and bedside)

Scheduling and Orientation:

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
  • Holidays: Expected to cover 2 out of 3 holidays
  • RTO requests are subject to manager approval
  • Flexible scheduling options available, including block scheduling if needed
  • Orientation: 12-hour shifts for unit orientation
