Job description

Immediate need for a talented Network Engineer – Network Automation & Enterprise Switching. This is a 06+ months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Austin, TX (Onsite). Please review the job description below and contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Pay Range: $55 - $65/hour.  Traveler benefits as per agency package. (Benefits vary by vendor and assignment.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, deploy, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Work hands-on with Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and routing.
  • Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, VRRP, MC-LAG, STP, VTP, PortChannel, OSPF, and BGP.
  • Troubleshoot complex network connectivity, performance, and availability issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions.
  • Develop network automation using Python, Ansible, scripting, REST APIs, and network programmability tools.
  • Automate network provisioning, configuration, validation, and routine operational tasks.
  • Monitor network health, performance, capacity, availability, and security.
  • Support enterprise data center and campus network environments.
  • Participate in network deployments, upgrades, maintenance, and change activities.
  • Work with engineering, architecture, security, operations, vendors, and other technical teams.
  • Evaluate new networking technologies and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain network diagrams, technical documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
  • Support incident response, problem management, vulnerability assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical recommendations and communicate network health and improvement opportunities to leadership and stakeholders.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience: 

  • 5+ years of Network Engineering experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Layer 2/Layer 3 networking.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • VLANs
  • VRRP
  • MC-LAG
  • STP
  • VTP
  • PortChannel
  • OSPF
  • BGP
  • Experience with enterprise network design, implementation, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with network automation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Python, Ansible, or similar automation/scripting tools.
  • Experience with REST APIs and network programmability.
  • Experience with enterprise networking platforms such as Cisco, Dell, Arista, or Juniper.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and network security fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
