Position Overview

The Expert IT Infrastructure – Field Network provides advanced operational support for Oxy’s field network environment across production, drilling, facilities, field offices, telecommunications, and automation operations. This role serves as a senior technical resource responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, restoration, documentation, and continuous improvement of field network services. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, sound judgment, excellent customer service, and a commitment to safe work practices. This position requires the ability to work effectively in remote field environments and collaborate with operations personnel, technical teams, vendors, contractors, and business stakeholders to maintain reliable connectivity for critical operational systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support safe operations while helping protect the environment, employees, contractors, customers, and communities.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support field network infrastructure, including routing, switching, wireless, microwave, LTE, satellite, fiber, and telecommunications systems.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and service‑restoration activities for network, telecommunications, and connectivity issues affecting drilling, production, automation, plant, and business operations.
  • Provide on‑site and remote support for field offices, communications facilities, remote locations, and other critical operational sites.
  • Coordinate with Automation, Operations, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, vendors, and business stakeholders to resolve service‑impacting incidents.
  • Use IT service management processes to manage incidents, service requests, changes, and problem investigations through resolution.
  • Execute approved maintenance activities, including network upgrades, hardware replacements, lifecycle refreshes, firmware upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Participate in outage response, root‑cause analysis, corrective‑action development, and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, site records, equipment inventories, operating procedures, and support runbooks.
  • Support the commissioning, startup, and integration of new facilities, communications systems, operational technology networks, and business infrastructure.
  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify service degradation, operational risks, capacity constraints, reliability issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge transfer to team members while promoting standardized operational practices.
  • Support field construction activities, vendor coordination, site surveys, telecommunications projects, and infrastructure deployments.
  • Prepare and communicate operational‑status updates, technical findings, outage notifications, and project‑progress reports.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and provide after‑hours support for critical operational issues, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience supporting, installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting enterprise network and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: routing, switching, wireless, telecommunications, fiber, LTE, microwave, SCADA, industrial networking, or related systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex operational issues and restore services safely and efficiently.
  • Experience working directly with field operations personnel, vendors, contractors, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of incident management, change management, and operational support processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to field locations and provide after‑hours operational support, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Equivalent relevant field experience may be considered.
  • Experience supporting field network infrastructure in oil and gas, industrial, manufacturing, telecommunications, utilities, or other critical operating environments.
  • Experience supporting network and telecommunications systems in remote or geographically distributed field locations.
  • Experience with routing, switching, wireless, microwave, private LTE, satellite, fiber‑optic, SCADA, industrial networking, or related communications technologies.
  • Experience supporting field construction, facility commissioning, site startups, equipment replacements, infrastructure upgrades, or operational technology deployments.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling and fiber‑optic installation, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and industry best practices.
  • Experience using ServiceNow, network‑monitoring platforms, ticketing systems, network‑management systems, or related operational support tools.
  • Experience participating in outage response, incident management, root‑cause analysis, and corrective‑action activities.
  • Experience working with field operations, automation teams, vendors, contractors, and business users to resolve operational issues.
  • Experience creating and maintaining support documentation, operational procedures, network diagrams, equipment inventories, and support runbooks.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce recurring incidents, improve reliability, or automate repetitive support activities.
  • Experience supporting communications towers, microwave systems, wireless infrastructure, mobile communications solutions, or remote‑site connectivity.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices, patching activities, firmware management, and operational technology support processes.
  • Previous experience in field support, telecommunications, network operations, infrastructure support, or industrial operations.
