Job Description
The Principal UI Designer will work closely with the Director of UX + UI, UX Researchers, and an existing team of high performing Designers to create the user experience for the core journeys and products of AmericanExpress.com. You will partner closely with product owners, usability testing leads, and engineers to enhance the overall quality, value, and experience of our products and core journeys. As a Principal UI Designer you will be hands on in setting the vision and driving concepts to create innovative interactive experiences for the full spectrum of devices and use cases.ย
Principal UX Designer you will be hands on in all aspects of user experience including: gathering and understanding business & user requirements, creating information architecture diagrams and user flows, building detailed wireframes, high & low fidelity prototypes and the creation of new concepts. The Principal UX Designer will lead the User Experience for our core set of products and journeys. Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities
ย Expected to guide and inspire a creative team, lead by example and have strong communication skills to support global business partners on a day-to-day basis.
Manage multiple creative projects as a designer and a creative leader.
Work closely with fellow designers and developers to build out prototypes and provide support for usability tests.
Be a passionate advocate for the user, ground ideas in industry best practices, usability research and incorporate customer insights and principles throughout the creative process.
Act as a creative expert on projects outsourced to other agencies and help uphold design best practices, guidelines, brand consistency, and quality.
Consistently demonstrate an enhanced understanding of digital graphic design, typography, and interface design.
Source, secure and manage a suite of freelancers UX designers for overflow and ad hoc work as neededย
Qualifications
8+ years digital agency or client side experience as a design leader.
Expert in designing user centered design experiences for multiple devices and platforms, understanding responsive layouts and how to optimize design for flexible layout treatments.
4-5 years experience mentoring and inspiring creative talent.
Strong negotiation and relationship management skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate/influence at all levels without having direct authority.
Familiarity in the prototyping capabilities of HTML, DHTML, and CSS; significant experience working with tech developers.
Vision, passion and POV about the evolution of interactive design.
Desire to develop oneself; a hunger to innovate and stay current in trends and techniques.
Portfolio required and a keen sense of humor
