Job description

ERG is seeking a Safety Specialist to support safety and occupational health programs. This role is responsible for administering, monitoring, and enforcing safety programs and procedures in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Navy Occupational Safety and Health (NAVOSH), and OPNAV. The ideal candidate will have experience in an industrial or construction environment and strong knowledge of OSHA and Navy safety standards, risk identification, and incident reporting.
This is a full-time, onsite position located at the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) in Wallops Island, VA.
Job Description:
  • Administer and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with NAVOSH, OPNAV, OSHA, and applicable OSH requirements
  • Conduct safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and operations to identify unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions
  • Observe processes to identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend mitigation measures
  • Draft requirements for safety-related repairs or redesign, including review of plans, specifications, and processes for compliance
  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to safety incidents and accidents in accordance with regulatory and contract requirements
  • Support fire prevention, hazardous waste management, emergency preparedness, and disaster or crisis response activities
  • Provide technical safety support to program, facilities, and operations personnel

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Certifications in OSHA 500, OSHA 501, National Safety Council Advanced Safety Certificate, or OSHA 30
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial plant, industrial facility, or commercial construction environment
  • Experience observing work processes, analyzing safety risks, and reporting safety incidents
  • Experience inspecting safety equipment for compliance and effectiveness
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Navy Occupational Safety and Health (NAVOSH) regulations and policies, including Hazard Communication, Electrical Safety/Lockout Tagout, Fall Protection/Working at Heights, Hazard Abatement, Safety Inspections, and Weight and Material Handling Safety
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations

$100,000 - $115,000 a year
ERG offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, educational benefits, FSAs, a generous 401k plan, profit sharing, an EAP, 11-20 paid vacation days per year, 10 paid holidays per year, 56 hours or more of sick leave (based on the state you work in) per year (pro-rated for part-time) and more. The salary range for all positions depends on the years and type of experience.
