Intake Therapist – Adult Behavioral Health

Southgate, Michigan
Full-Time | Permanent Position

Compensation

Limited License: $27.22 – $36.63/hour
Fully Licensed: $29.47 – $39.88/hour

About the Opportunity

A well-established community behavioral health organization is seeking an Intake Therapist to join its Adult Behavioral Health team. This position plays a critical role in assessing client needs, coordinating access to services, and helping individuals begin their treatment journey through a person-centered and recovery-oriented approach.

The organization provides a comprehensive range of behavioral health, prevention, education, and support services to children, adults, and families throughout the community.

Schedule

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and complete required documentation within established timelines.
  • Gather and integrate information from clients, family members, caregivers, medical records, and other relevant sources.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to assess readiness for treatment and support engagement.
  • Educate clients and families regarding available services and treatment options.
  • Assist clients in initiating person-centered treatment planning.
  • Develop safety plans when clinically indicated.
  • Facilitate referrals for additional evaluations, psychological testing, or specialized services.
  • Promote recovery-oriented and group support services when appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, case consultations, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Respond to chart reviews, audits, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Maintain active licensure and complete ongoing professional development requirements.
  • Adhere to professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and organizational policies.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master's Degree in:
    • Social Work
    • Psychology
    • Counseling
    • Related Behavioral Health Field

Licensure

  • Active Michigan licensure corresponding to degree and discipline.
  • All licenses must remain active and in good standing.

Experience

  • Minimum one year of post-Master's experience providing mental health treatment services to adults with severe mental illness.
  • Experience conducting behavioral health assessments and treatment planning.

Required Skills

  • Ability to build therapeutic relationships with adult behavioral health clients.
  • Strong assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
  • Knowledge of person-centered planning and recovery-oriented treatment models.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations.

Additional Requirements

  • Must obtain Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and Qualified Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Professional (QIDDP) credentials within 120 days of hire.
  • Must possess a CAADC credential or be actively enrolled in an approved MCBAP Certification Development Plan within six weeks of hire.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Full Michigan licensure preferred.
  • Experience in community mental health settings.
  • Experience working with Medicaid populations.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) principles.
