    About The Role

    At CVS Health, we're looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager passionate about making this the place for engineers to build enterprise grade API platform that directly integrates with API gateways such as APIGEE, APIM and Kong.

    We're building out the API Platform to enable teams across the company to quickly and easily deliver experiences into the hands of our customers, all at the scale of a Fortune 6 company! The API Platform will be leveraged by thousands of engineers across CVS Health building APIs used by millions of customers. We need a strong technical leader for this high performing team who can advocate for best practices, and can collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, architects and leadership to build API platform that our engineers want to use.

    What We Expect of You

    • You have Proven experience designing and operating backend APIs at scale, especially GraphQL-based platforms

    • You have strong understanding of authentication and authorization patterns, including OAuth, OIDC, JWTs, and service-to-service security

    • You understand business outcomes and drive technical solutions to help achieve our goals.

    • You'll set OKRs with your team and ensure the health of those with KPIs

    • You'll partner with leaders across engineering, business, and product to build a strategy and roadmap

    • You'll collaborate with other teams across CVS Digital to ensure we're building a API platform with our engineer's needs in mind

    • You'll keep an eye out for new and emerging technologies that improve performance, delivery, and the developer experience

    • You'll hire and retain high performing, deeply technical engineers that care about building a great engineering culture

    • You'll lead a team of front-end and backend engineers as they build API platform for CVS Health engineers

    • You'll actively participate in the design and architecture process for new capabilities across teams.

    Required Qualifications

    • 7+ years of leadership experience, directly managing individual contributors

    • 7+ years of experience building enterprise grade applications at scale

    • 5+ years of experience with JavaScript

    • 3+ years of experience with TypeScript and modern Node.js backend development

    • Experience with API gateway technologies such as Kong, Apigee, or Azure API Management

    • Experience with distributed workflows, asynchronous orchestration, or job-processing systems such as Temporal or similar platforms

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Node.js

    • Experience building accessible web applications.

    • Exposure to GraphQL and RESTful web services

    • Experience working with a source versioning tool, such as Git

    • Experience with testing and proficiency with a testing framework (e.g., Jest, RTL, Cypress, Playwright).

    • Exposure to DevOps tools, processes, and culture (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, GHA, etc.)

    • Experience working on a project using mature CI/CD practices

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (Highschool diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience)

    Pay Range

    The typical pay range for this role is:

    $118,450.00 - $260,590.00


    This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
