Job description

Crane Installer

Reports To: Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Location: Kansas City, MO

SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing heavy duty crane modifications, installations and repairs to damaged cranes and crane parts, plus crane repair and maintenance work in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards under the general direction of the Crane Shop Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Installation and removal of different types of crane and crane equipment.

  • Modification of crane truck wheelbases.

  • Installation and removal of crane truck suspensions.

  • Perform work as outlined on crane order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards.

  • Fabrication and installation of components related to crane equipment installations.

  • Keeps shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all tools at all times.

  • Ability to follow both written and verbal installation instructions.

  • Uses and maintains all necessary shop equipment required to complete any crane repairs or PM inspections.

  • Disposes of used oil, grease, antifreeze and filters in the assigned location to insure EPA compliance.

  • Cleans and properly equips assigned area to perform all necessary repairs to equipment.

  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.

  • Tags all warranty and core parts and take to area for return, insuring proper credit is allowed.

  • Advises Crane Manager immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if installations or repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.

  • Document work performed.

  • Attend factory-sponsored training classes.

  • Ensures that customers’ cranes are kept clean.

  • Tests crane to quality-check work performed.

  • Works with all departments in harmony.

  • Must have a working knowledge and understanding of the Company’s Job Safety policies pertaining to this position. Attends and participates in Custom Truck monthly safety training classes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Crane installations.

  • Welding and fabrication of cranes.

  • Knowledge of 12V electrical systems including multi-plex wiring.

  • Basic understanding of truck mounted crane hydraulic systems and installation procedures.

  • Sockets and wrenches through 1 ½ SAE and 22 MM metric.

  • Air tools with minimum ½ inch air drill and impact.

  • Pliers, screwdrivers and pipe wrenches.

  • Test equipment to include 12V test light and VOM meter.

  • Welders hood and small hand clamps.

  • Must be able to represent Custom Truck & Equipment in a professional manner. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and write information given in classes and training seminars and apply that knowledge in every day working environment.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. several times during each shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
