What Is the Opportunity?
The Risk Control Specialist team consists of individuals with deep risk management expertise in a particular discipline, such as Transportation, Boiler & Machinery, Property, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Workers Compensation, Inland Marine, or Ocean Marine. By sharing their specialized knowledge with customers, Risk Control consultants and Lab partners, Claim professionals, and underwriters, the Specialist team helps our partners to better understand risks, control hazards, and reduce losses. Â Â As a Risk Control Specialist, you are responsible for the discipline and will drive specialized technical solutions to better manage highly complex risks. Your key responsibilities will include skillfully consulting onsite with customers across the region on a frequent basis regarding risk exposures and loss controls and supporting underwriting execution and processes. You will likewise support Risk Control Consultants and Specialists by conducting peer reviews, mentoring, and delivering targeted training on skill development.
What Will You Do?
Maintain a consistent field presence, spending approximately 20% - 50% of the time with customers, either onsite or virtually. Traveling to customers may entail long-distance, overnight travel, and/or multi-night trips depending on the needs of the business and alignment with territory and/or geography.
Conduct highly complex risk evaluations of Travelers customers, identifying exposures, loss controls, and opportunities for improved risk management. Share findings with Underwriting, Claim, and/or Risk Control Lab partners to support effective risk pricing and claim handling.
Leverage advanced consulting skills to educate customers on how they can better manage risk and influence them to adopt recommended changes.
Mentor Risk Control consultants and less experienced Specialists to support their development within the discipline. This will entail reviewing the survey reports of consultants and Specialists for accuracy and thoroughness (peer reviews), helping newer Specialists to prepare for customer surveys, and providing regular guidance and feedback on technical matters.
Hone expertise within the discipline by studying emerging issues, tracking loss trends in claim data, and occasionally attending industry conferences. Educate and deliver targeted trainings to Risk Control consultants, Specialists, customers, and business partners on discipline-specific topics.
Perform other duties as assigned.
