Our client is an industry leader in the Media and Entertainment space. They operate a network of multi-channel media and web sites, web properties and promotional sites in Canada and the USA delivering content 24/7 in the entertainment industry space.

This is a perm FT role - salary, benefits, vacation.

  • Location is North York area of Toronto/GTA, near 401/Yonge St and near TTC.
  • Hybrid role - combination of on-site and some remote/WFH.

System Administrator

The System Administrator will be a seasoned IT professional who plays an integral role in maintaining IT systems and organizational policies to ensure the integrity of the overall network and computer systems. We are looking for a System Administrator to maintain, upgrade and manage our software, hardware and networks.

Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly. You should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users. Your goal will be to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.

System Administrator responsibilities include:

  • Installing and configuring software, hardware and networks.
  • Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues.
  • Ensuring security and efficiency of IT infrastructure.
  • Managing 3rd party hosting infrastructure / services.

Responsibilities:

  • Install and configure software and hardware.
  • Manage network servers and technology tools.
  • Set up accounts and workstations.
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements.
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages.
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls.
  • Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
  • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies.
  • Maintain an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies.
  • Fully supporting, configuring, maintaining and upgrading corporate customer's networks and in house servers.
  • Installing and integrating new server hardware and applications as required.
  • Keeping an eye out for needed updates.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role with Windows server OS and Linux.
  • Experience with databases MS SQL, MySQL, etc.
  • Experience with networks (LAN, WAN, VPN ) and patch management.
  • Experience with webservers, streaming services.
  • Knowledge of system, IT, cyber security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
  • Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other similar language used for automation.
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • BSc/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline; professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator - MCSA) is a plus.

  • Microsoft IIS Administration and Linux based Apache.
  • Microsoft SQL Database Administration - Experience with enterprise preferred.
  • Linux based MySQL Database Administration - Galara expertise preferred.
  • Windows Active Directory Administration experience.
  • Microsoft DFS Experience.
  • Linux Debian support experience.
  • VMware/Proxmox Experience.
  • Haproxy Load-Balancing and PFSense Firewall Administration.
  • OpenVPN/IPsec Troubleshooting skills.
  • Windows/Linux Email Systems support.
  • Large Scale Domain/SSL Experience.
  • Monitoring Zabbix/ELK Stack.
  • Net backup and General Backup Experience.
  • CDN and Website Performance Monitoring Experience.
  • SEO understanding and ability is an asset.
