GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Tribal Police Officer performs law enforcement work in the preservation of the peace, the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes; the arrest or apprehension of violators, and the provision of assistance to citizens in emergencies, including the protection of civil rights. This position assures compliance with tribal, federal, state, county, and municipal laws and ordinances, and agency rules and regulations pertaining law enforcement work.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Possess or obtain CLEET certification, First Aid, and CPR certifications and maintain throughout employment.
• Must be a minimum age of 21 at time of application.

• Ability to build strong working relationships
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
• Possess or obtain basic Council on Law Enforcement Education Training or Federal Law Enforcement Center certificate within one (1) year of hire and maintain throughout employment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
• Must live within Tribal Jurisdictional Service Area.
• Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement.
• Must meet and maintain firearms qualifications annually.
• Must meet and maintain eligibility for Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) deputation and have no restrictions from testifying in any federal, tribal, and state court while employed with Cherokee Nation Marshal Service (CNMS).
• Must pass the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI).
• Must comply with Cherokee Nation Office of the Marshal policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
