Job description

ABOUT US

Catholic Charities began in 1926. A century later, we’re still working to promote the dignity of all people through our programs and services. In 2025, we served 328,112 people through programs and services that respond to poverty, unemployment, loneliness, mental illness, domestic violence, and family separation. Our dynamic programs serve all regardless of race, religion, creed, or socioeconomic status. Our programs are anchored at the St. Martin de Porres Community Center in North Omaha, the St. Juan Diego Community Center in South Omaha, and the St. Teresa of Calcutta Campus in Northwest Omaha.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

You’ll join a mission-driven team dedicated to empowering human dignity. Though our Catholic Faith guides our work, you do not have to be Catholic to join our team or receive services from Catholic Charities. As a critical and leading member of the Catholic Charities’ Domestic Violence Services Program team, you will:

Stand in the Gap During Moments of Crisis & Courage

  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy, and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking — and their children — in both shelter and hotline settings.
  • Answer the 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline with calm, clarity, and compassion, helping callers assess safety, explore options, and take next steps.
  • Walk alongside survivors in one-on-one and group settings, offering advocacy, education, and empowerment-centered support.
  • Help meet survivors’ physical, social, and behavioral needs by coordinating services, connecting survivors to community resources, and problem-solving barriers to safety and stability.
  • Support a safe, welcoming shelter environment by assisting with daily operations, maintaining shared spaces, and ensuring essential supplies are available.
  • Extend care beyond a survivor’s shelter stay through Community Reintegration Services, offering continued encouragement and connection.
  • Document services accurately and timely to ensure program integrity, measurable impact, and compliance with grant expectations.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with community providers – including social services, healthcare, education, law enforcement, and legal systems – to strengthen coordinated support for survivors.
  • Serve as a steady, grounding presence when situations are complex, emotional, or urgent.

Reliable attendance is essential to ensuring consistent, life-saving support for survivors.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A growing or established understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking dynamics – or a strong willingness to learn.
  • The ability to communicate with empathy, humility, and without judgment.
  • Confidence responding to crisis situations and skill in de-escalation and safety planning.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make thoughtful decisions, including in emergency situations or in the absence of a supervisor.
  • A commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professional ethics, and appropriate boundaries.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to build cooperative relationships with clients, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices, with attention to empowerment, power dynamics, and gender-based violence.
  • Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of those served.
  • Computer proficiency and comfort with documentation and data tracking systems.
  • Dependability, initiative, and a steady presence others can rely on. This is a 24/7/365 program that will require weekends, nights, and holidays.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six (6) months of experience working with the public or on a work team required.
  • One (1) year of experience in human services or behavioral health preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related human services field preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within three months).
  • Valid Nebraska Driver’s License and insurability required.
  • Position functions in a residential setting with women, men, and children who have experienced domestic abuse.
  • Travel to attend local or regional training is required.
  • Willingness to work on weekends and holidays as required.
  • Commitment to upholding Catholic Charities’ mission, values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.

WHY JOIN CATHOLIC CHARITIES?

  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Access to health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy paid time off, recognized holidays, and retirement benefits.
  • Growth & Development: Take advantage of professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and advance your career.
  • Mission-Driven Work Environment: Be part of a team that is changing lives and making a real impact in the community every day.

This is more than a job – it’s a calling. At Catholic Charities, you will work in a supportive, mission-driven environment where your expertise and dedication will directly impact lives, fostering pathways to security, stability, and hope. If you are passionate and ready to empower human dignity, we invite you to apply today.
