HEALTH SERVICES DATA ANALYST

RESEARCH ANALTICS AND PLANNING UNIT

HELENA, MT

As a Health Services Data Analyst, you'll play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery in a correctional setting. You'll research, develop, and apply analytical techniques that transform complex health data into actionable insights-helping healthcare executives, providers, managers, and administrators make data-driven, strategic decisions. Your work will directly contribute to reducing healthcare costs, improving care quality, and supporting healthier communities. Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze quantitative and nonquantitative healthcare data to support strategic decisionmaking.

  • Modify and enhance data collection methods and statistical models as industry needs evolve.

  • Collaborate across the agency or business unit on research initiatives and data projects.

  • Collaborate with other state agencies to manage data sharing and inter agency data processes.

  • Integrate multiple data sources to produce meaningful projections, trends, and interpretations. Develop research reports with descriptive, analytical, and evaluative insights-including clear recommendations.

  • Work with data system vendors to ensure quality reporting and data availability

  • Work as a member of the RAP team with a primary focus on healthcarerelated data and initiatives.

  • Support broader department data needs as required.

Types of Data You'll Work With:

Clinical Data - Utilize EHRs and clinical information to improve health outcomes.

Claims Data - Discover trends that guide financial planning and readiness.

Pharmaceutical Data - Analyze medication usage, trends, and cost impacts.

Behavioral Health Data - Provide insight into mental health, suicidality, interventions, and substance use.

Public Health Data - Identify patterns, develop prevention insights, and inform public health strategies.

Your work will help shape programs, policies, and decisions that improve health systems and the lives of the people they serve. This is more than a data job-it's a chance to make a measurable difference.

This position is a hybrid position located in Helena, MT with at least two days in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, epidemiology, or another related research-intensive field.

  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in economic, statistical, epidemiological, program evaluation, or related analysis.

  • Experience with data tools such as Tableau, R, Microsoft Power BI, or SAS

  • Written and verbal communication, creative thinking, interpersonal skills, and time management.

  • Experience with EHR, medical terminology, and medical billing are extremely useful-and can help you land a job more easily.

  • Eligible to work in the United States

Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
