What is a renewal specialist?

Renewal specialists are professionals responsible for managing and processing contract or subscription renewals for products or services. They work with clients to ensure timely renewals, address any issues or concerns, and may negotiate terms to retain customers. Their role helps companies maintain steady revenue by minimizing churn and building strong customer relationships. Renewal specialists often collaborate with sales, customer service, and account management teams.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in renewal roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Renewal roles often encounter challenges such as managing a high volume of client accounts, handling objections during contract negotiations, and ensuring timely communication to prevent lapses in service. Staying organized and proactive—using CRM tools and setting reminders—can help keep renewals on track. Building strong relationships with clients and collaborating closely with sales, customer success, and support teams also helps address concerns early and increases the likelihood of successful renewals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a renewal specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Renewal Specialist, you need strong sales acumen, attention to detail, and experience with contract management or customer account renewal processes, often supported by a background in business or related fields. Familiarity with CRM software (such as Salesforce), renewal management tools, and sometimes certification in sales or customer success are typically required. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills help you stand out by ensuring client satisfaction and retention. These skills are crucial because they directly impact revenue preservation and long-term customer loyalty for the organization.

Job description

About Honey Homes

Honey Homes is a membership service for homeowners that takes care of the everyday to-do's, ongoing maintenance, and unexpected repairs that come with owning a home. Members are paired with a dedicated handyperson and use a simple app to coordinate. We're on a mission to replace the hassle of homeownership with the joy of comfortable living.

We're backed by Khosla Ventures, Era Ventures, Pear.vc, and the co-founders of DoorDash, Lyft, and Opendoor. Our team has built and scaled companies like Airbnb, Google, Opendoor, Yelp, Zillow, and Uber.

The Opportunity

You’ll spend your days inside beautiful homes, helping existing Honey Homes members get the most out of one of their Honey Homes Membership. Every renewal begins with an in-home Renewal Consultation, one of the most important moments in the member journey. This isn’t a sales call. It’s an opportunity to build trust, assess the health of the home, celebrate everything that’s been accomplished, and help homeowners plan what’s next.

Your job is to leave every member feeling confident that Honey Homes is the right long-term partner for their home.

What You’ll Do

Every member approaching renewal receives an in-home Renewal Consultation.

Over the course of about 90 minutes, you’ll walk the home with the member, complete a comprehensive home health assessment, identify maintenance opportunities, answer questions, and build a thoughtful plan for the year ahead. You’ll review the value they’ve received, recommend future projects, and help them choose the membership that best fits their needs.

You’ll also capture photos, document recommendations, build scopes of work, and coordinate with our operations team so every follow-up visit is set up for success.

Every home is different. Every conversation is different. The common thread is helping homeowners feel informed, cared for, and excited about what’s next.

Why This Role Is DifferentYou’re building relationships—not making cold calls.

Every homeowner you meet is already a Honey Homes member. They know us, trust us, and are inviting you into their home to help them make smart decisions about its care.

You become their trusted home advisor.

This isn’t transactional sales. You’ll educate homeowners, uncover needs they may not recognize, and help them proactively protect one of their biggest investments.

Every day is different.

Every home tells a different story. You’ll encounter unique maintenance challenges, meet fascinating homeowners, and help create personalized plans that make homeownership easier.

You have real ownership.

You’ll have meaningful influence over one of the most important moments in the member lifecycle. Your work directly impacts member satisfaction, retention, and long-term success.

Help shape the future of the program.

Our Renewal Consultation program is still evolving. Your feedback from the field will directly influence how we improve the experience, our technology, and the playbook over time.

Join early and grow with us.

Honey Homes is still early. As we continue to expand, top performers will have opportunities to help shape our member experience, operations, and future teams.

What We’re Looking ForYou’re naturally consultative.

You enjoy helping people make thoughtful decisions. You ask great questions, listen carefully, explain complex topics simply, and create confidence without pressure.

You build trust quickly.

You’re comfortable walking into someone’s home and making them feel at ease within minutes. Homeowners naturally see you as someone they can rely on.

You know your way around a home.

You don’t need to be a licensed contractor, but you understand the basics of home maintenance and enjoy helping homeowners prioritize projects. You’re curious, practical, and eager to keep learning.

You’re highly organized.

Great recommendations are only valuable if they’re documented well. You capture detailed notes, thoughtful scopes of work, photos, and next steps that allow the rest of the organization to execute seamlessly.

You notice what others miss.

You have an eye for detail and enjoy identifying opportunities before they become expensive problems. Whether it’s deferred maintenance, safety concerns, or future improvements, you’re always thinking a few steps ahead.

You’re energized by startups.

You enjoy building as much as operating. You’ll follow a proven playbook, but you’ll also help improve it. You’re excited by ambiguity and constantly looking for better ways to work.

You act like an owner.

You care deeply about delivering an exceptional member experience. You take responsibility for the outcome—not just the appointment—and consistently look for ways to improve both the member experience and the business.

What Success Looks Like in 12 MonthsMembers renew because they trust you.

Your Renewal Consultations consistently leave members feeling informed, cared for, and excited about continuing their membership. Renewal conversion rates and member satisfaction are among the strongest in the company.

Every home has a clear plan.

Your assessments identify meaningful maintenance opportunities, prioritize future work, and ensure members leave every consultation with a thoughtful roadmap for the year ahead.

The operation runs better because of your work.

Your documentation, photos, scopes of work, and recommendations enable Scheduling, Field Operations, and Member Success to execute seamlessly with minimal rework.

Members get more value from Honey Homes.

You help homeowners fully utilize their membership by proactively identifying projects, scheduling future work before leaving the home, and ensuring they understand all the ways Honey Homes can help.

The Renewal Consultation program keeps improving.

You continuously share feedback from the field, identify recurring themes, and help evolve the playbook, technology, and member experience as Honey Homes grows.

Compensation and benefits
  • Salary of $86,000.

  • Equity. Every employee is an owner at Honey Homes.

  • 100% covered medical, dental, and vision for employees.

  • 401(k), FSA, paid parental leave, and a flexible time-off policy.

A few things to know

This is a field role based in the SF Bay Area area. You'll need a reliable vehicle, a valid driver's license, and a willingness to drive throughout the region.

If this sounds like your kind of role, we'd love to meet you.

We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants equally without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status. Women and under-represented minorities are encouraged to apply.
