Job Title: Primary Care Physician (Board Certified / Board Eligible)

Specialty: Primary Care — Internal Medicine (ABIM) or Family Practice (ABFM). Either specialty accepted

Place of Work: Dayton VA Medical Center, 4100 W. 3rd St., Dayton, OH 45417 (primary and only on-site location)

Duration: Base year 8/1/2026 - 7/31/2027, with possibility of 1 option year extension

Shift Schedule:

  • Primary Care Normal Clinic Hours: 0800 - 1630 (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM), Monday through Friday
  • No overtime required
  • No Federal Holiday coverage required - clinics closed on Federal Holidays

Shifts Per Month: Full-time, approx. 173 hours/month per FTE (2,080 hrs/year per PWS)

Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 8-10 weeks minimum.

Required Candidate Submission Documents:

  • Copy of active, full, unrestricted state medical license (any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.)
  • Board Certification certificate or Board Eligibility documentation — Internal Medicine (ABIM) or Family Practice (ABFM)
  • Current CV with complete education, training, and work history documenting 3+ years full-time primary care experience
  • BLS certification (AHA)
  • ACLS certification (AHA)
  • NPI Copy
  • DEA copy
  • OIG/SAM exclusion list clearance confirmation with date of check

License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.

Education: MD or DO from accredited institution. Residency in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Board Certified or Board Eligible: Internal Medicine (ABIM) OR Family Practice (ABFM) — either accepted

Current CV identifying education and professional qualifications commensurate with the position

Special Skills:

  • MINIMUM 3 years full-time comprehensive primary care experience required
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible: Internal Medicine (ABIM) OR Family Practice (ABFM)
  • Patient volume: 9 patients/day standard, maximum 12 patients/day
  • All services performed on-site at Dayton VAMC campus only
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
  • CPRS/VistA and CERNER Millennium EHR — VA provides training

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Board Certified/Board Eligible Primary Care services at Dayton VAMC PACT Clinics
  • Empanel and manage own patient panel; see 9 patients/day standard, maximum 12 per day
  • Evaluation and treatment including ordering/interpreting diagnostic studies, lab, imaging, EKG, and medications
  • Discussion of end-of-life preferences and advanced care planning
  • Consultations with sub-specialists as appropriate
  • Social work referrals for all identified homeless veterans and patients without primary care providers
  • Abscess incision and drainage; fecal occult blood testing within core privileges
  • Complete EHR documentation with E&M and procedure codes by end of each patient care encounter
  • Report patient safety incidents within 24 hours via VA Patient Safety Reporting System
  • Participate in weekly team huddles, provider all calls, and monthly admin meetings
  • Maintain all required licensure, board certification, and CME throughout the period of performance
  • Report CME hours to credentialing office for tracking and re-privileging annually
  • Complete all mandatory TMS training modules prior to first duty shift
  • Comply with HIPAA, VHA Privacy Directive, and VA Information Security requirements
