Job description

Job Summary

VIZ Media, the world leader in English-language versions of manga and anime (Japanese comics and animation), is looking for a highly motivated and passionate Paid Media Manager to join our Marketing team. The Paid Media Manager drives the digital advertising strategy for a wide array of VIZ Media products and services. This role manages the planning, execution, optimization, and documented measurement of PPC campaigns across paid social, paid search, and other digital channels; and provides critical insight into campaign performance. The Paid Media Manager works closely with the Director, Performance Marketing; Sr. Manager, Social Media; as well as cross-functional marketing team leaders in the Product Marketing, CAR, and other departments to align performance marketing strategy with key business goals. 

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for strategic planning and performance of PPC campaigns across paid social, paid search, and other digital channels, including but not limited to: Facebook/Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, X, Pinterest, Google Ads, Amazon Ads, and more. Key functions include:
  • Collaborating with paid media associates and cross-functional team members to determine campaign details, budgets, and goals
  • Aggregating and communicating campaign trafficking details to paid media team members
  • Directing campaign optimization and adjustment efforts in order to meet KPI benchmarks
  • Analyzing paid media campaign performance, preparing reports, and sharing key takeaways with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Identifying consumer behavior, trends, and insights and shifting spend and budget accordingly
  • Manages the paid media team in the execution of PPC campaigns by developing, executing, and upleveling teamwide soup-to-nuts processes (monthly campaign trafficking, budget management, reporting, etc.)
  • Works hand-in-hand with the Senior Social Media Manager to inform content development strategies and production schedules in accordance with paid media campaign needs
  • Partners with other internal teams (Product Marketing, CAR, CPG) to understand and prioritize paid support needs; manages and deploys paid team resources according to priority level and in alignment with VIZ's overall business goals.
  • Oversees the communication flow between the paid media team and cross-functional partners; sometimes serves as the spokesperson for paid media strategy to company leadership and licensors.
  • Helps to shape test-and-learn initiatives in an effort to evolve paid media strategy based on performance analyses, impacting budget allocations; audience targeting; creative development; and more.
  • Maintains an up-to-date list of ad platform representatives and their contact information; meets with reps as needed to for strategic development and troubleshooting purposes.
  • Regularly evaluates and adjusts paid media strategy to align with leading-edge best practices, algorithmic changes, and shifting audience behaviors alongside the widespread adoption of AI-powered tools.
  • In partnership with the Director, Performance Marketing, identifies channel and tactic expansion opportunities; helps to prepare and present expansion proposals to key internal stakeholders.
  • From time to time, gives input on advertising strategy for special projects (e.g. brick-and-mortar pop-up shops, events, etc.)

The ideal candidate has:

  • 3-5 years of experience managing paid social and paid search campaigns across various channels, including Facebook/Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Google Ads, and Amazon Ads
  • 2-3 years of managerial experience overseeing teams of channel experts/media buyers
  • Demonstrated past success in building, executing, and reporting on comprehensive multi-channel PPC campaigns, preferably in the publishing and/or entertainment industry
  • Past experience directly managing paid social and paid search advertising campaign
  • Proven track record of overseeing paid media buyers delivering strong results
  • Expertise in digital advertising management tools, platforms, and best practices
  • Experience presenting digital marketing campaign results to senior stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position

  • Knowledge of/interest in anime and manga/publishing/entertainment/home video fields 
  • Some experience with project management tools

Work Environment & Schedule

Location: The Paid Media Manager position is open to candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area or remote within the states of California, Oregon, New York, or Texas. If local to the Bay Area, the Paid Media Manager should expect to work onsite 1-2 days per week at our San Francisco office. If remote, the Manager should expect to travel to San Francisco 3-4 times per year.

Schedule: This is a Regular Full-Time position with core hours of 10 am to 4 pm Pacific Time, with some flexibility outside of core hours as needed. 

Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on experience, with additional variable compensation
